Hi all,

I'm from Sydney and my newly aquired YB8 just landed yesterday. It looks awesome. I'm sure to have plenty of questions, so I hope you guys can help me out.

Being an '89 model, the YB8 is eligible for our pre-1991 Period 6 race class, so I hope to get it out on the track some time.

I'll take some photos and post them up later.

I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I can't wait to fire this thing up and take it for a spin. I need to check the fluids and give the battery a charge (after I find where it is Smile ) and hopefully it's good to go.

Welcome to the forum mate. Getting quite a few Aussies on here now. Did you import the yb or buy it locally?

Thanks for the warm welcome.

Hi Brian, I imported this bike from Germany. It's a very distinctive colour. Strangely enough, I like the pink. Embarassed I'm sure someone will recognise it from the photos. I just hope they don't say "I know that bike. So you bought that piece of crap. It had these problems....." Very Happy but it's looking pretty good at this stage.

I gave the battery a charge (I found it, thanks crankcase Wink ) and she started up! However, the front brake lever comes back to the bars, so I need to check that out before I take it for a spin.

It could have been a race/track bike at some stage, judging by the Fischer-Racing Team stickers under the tank cover, but it's not worn enough if it was. There are no scratches on the chassis parts so it may not have been dropped.

Is the steering damper standard?

What sort of shock is standard in these? There are Ohlins stickers, but it's difficult to see the shock at this stage.

hi Bud
yes the steering damper is standard.
but the Öhlins is 'most probably' a replacement- originally a Marzocchi duo shock as standard which are not 'the best' apparantly. So you've got a worthwhile upgrade.
keep it coming, lots of pics please.
Yes I remember this one being for sale, but I think that was a while ago.
If you like pink, then this was made for you : )

Looks great bud. Front brakes may just need new fluid and a bleed? Or maybe mastercylinder kit. It will certainly get some attention at the track. I'm doing a trackday on my db4 at qld raceway in november. Did you import the bike yourself or through a company... Raider motorsport do a lot of imports

I imported this bike myself. I import crates/containers of other products from overseas, so it was no big deal.

I saw the blue/yellow HB3 and that is up there in the brightness stakes. The colour combo is OK, but way too much yellow. It's not subtle like my pink bike. Shocked Laughing

I've got to see a pic of your bike SiBag. Do you have any links?

I couldn't help myself. There was an ARDC practice day at Eastern Creek yesterday, so I took the YB8 out for a test run.

I'd given the bike a quick checkover. The front brakes came back after a quick bleed. Everything seemed to be in order so I thought I'd take a punt.

The bike was awesome on the track. The only thing limiting lap times were the 10 year old street tyres. A set of slicks and tyre warmers will do wonders.

I had a brown undies moment when the throttle stuck open heading up to turn 10. Back to the pits and I found a furball in the carbs. I removed the old air filter bits and she fired up again.

While I had the seat/tank unit off, I found a nice surprise. There really is an Ohlins shock fitted, and it has the remote pre-load adjuster.

So to say I'm happy with this bike is an understatement. How often can you buy a 24 year old bike, put some fuel in it, give it a quick tweak and do quick laps around a racetrack.

In addition to all the usual Bimota niceness, this bike has PVM wheels (3.5" and 6.0"), the Ohlins shock, Termignoni pipe, flatslide carbs. What a ripper!

Sounds like you had a great day bud. Are you going to register the bike or just use it on the track?
