Gents, I realize we are long overdue for an update.
Well, I have been busy with life but have managed to get all the stuff needed to set the bearing seats into the wheel.
Got a colleague from the US to get me a bunch of JB Weld since it is half price stateside.
Also went to the local pharmacy to get some syringes to help get the JB Weld into the groove where it mates to the wheel.
The lady gave me a worried look and told me I could only buy the syringes but not the needles .. lol
The two tubes of JB Weld have the same density, so mixing 50/50 is easy with a kitchen scale. Whipped up 24g of weld.
Cut an old windscreen wash jar for mixing
Used one syringe to scoop up all the mixed JB Weld and then pushed it into a clean syringe and changed gloves so I could work with the wheel without gettng the stuff everywhere.
First I put it into the grooves of the bearing seats.
Then got the bolts in with Loctite 2701 (permanent bond) and ran a bead of JB Weld on the inside of the wheel and pushed it in with a finger all the way around, like a real gentleman.
24 hours from now, when it has all hardened I will measure it out and see if everything still lines up.
I am procrastinating with the caliper mounts because they quite frankly are a nightmare to model in Fusion 360...
Also, the ones I have already drawn up are pretty expensive to have CNC machined because they have to me machined from several sides which makes the many setups time consuming and expensive. _________________ jsteffensen.blogspot.com |

Unfortunately I have no idea how to do it
but I'll continue the construction anyway, hoping to understand how to insert the photos

I finally sat down and finished the caliper carrier. Even if it looks like a fairly simple thing, it took me a ton of time because I am not usin Fusion 360 every day. I knew what shape I wanted but simply did not know how to achieve it in Fusion ....
In the end I made a series of solid bodies in Fusion and cut them in the right angles and then merged them at the end. Quite happy with the result ... finally!
I sent the drawing off to get a quote.
Because of the intricate angles etc. they need to set it up 3-4 times to get the shape out, and it become increasingly more difficult to hold the part while milling it as well.
I was quoted about € 1.000 for one i.e. about €2.000 for the pair..
That was the sort of budget I had hoped would cover a donor bike ...
I am going to start assembling the hub now. I had initially ordered the big bearings with two different seals because i found them for cheap.
One has a contact seal (black) that has a lot of friction when turning by hand. The other has a non contact seal (blue) that turns easily by hand.
I see the real bimotas use bearings with black seals but i am not sure if they will turn more easily when run for 10 minutes or properly lubricated or whatever...
I ordered another one with the blue non-contact seal with the "2RZ" denomination that will arrive today.
Then I will also find out how much force it takes to press them into place...
Anyway, other things have taken my time over the summer, such as what life throws at you in general, and the addition of another project - this battle damaged thing
Hope everyone is doing well _________________ jsteffensen.blogspot.com |
