I insure with Footman James and just renewed. Got asked (by mail after renewal) for club membership number, but given the Bimota Enthusiasts Circle closed a while back I couldn't provide a current membership number. Got re-quoted and will cost around £60 (15%) extra. But nice lady at FJ did say I could join the Vintage Japanese Motorcycle Club (VJMC), provide a membership number, and that would suffice. Checked the VJMC website - £30 to join, £25pa renewal...less than the FJ uplift...so that's what I'll have to do.
OK for me as I have 3 YB's, but a tad awkward for non-Jap engine Bims or varied collections...and not entirely in the spirit of the VJMC either as they cater for Japanese factory bikes. Bonkers, but there you go! Anyone else out there had this issue...do share. Cheers. _________________ Bellaria (owned from new 1991), only one left after emigrating from UK. I'm a member of VJMC. As you say pay £25 to save £60 so £35 net gain. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Thanks gents...very helpful.
It's not the cost of the club membership that bothers me, especially given the overall net benefit.
It's just rather odd that an insurance broker like Footman James that offers these types of club-related policies doesn't seem to know what clubs there are that it can offer discounts for said club membership.
Also that it suggested the VJMC....but doubtless that's because the nice lady at FJ wouldn't know what a Bimota is (sadly many bikers don't either!!!)....she was just doing me a favour.
At heart (and in principle) I prefer the idea of being a member of the IMOC so that's the route I'll be looking at.
Cheers. _________________ Bellaria (owned from new 1991), only one left after emigrating from UK. In the past have owned a Tuarata, Tesi ES, YB11 and YB6Exup. Loved all to some degree or other> |

Hi
I am in the Vincent owners club and that gives me a large discount. Not that I have a Vincent on the policy. Which seems strange, but as it knocks off about 1/3 of the price I am not complaining
All the best
