Hi All
Just repairing the 4 into 1 exhaust on my SB3 - other early Bims have the 4 into 1 as well - and was amazed at the amount of steelwork/baffle inside! The steel is 16 gauge and pretty poor quality but see the pics below for the number of baffle tubes inside. The exhaust gas goes up and down the silencer element 4 times through ever increasing numbers of holes and U turns until it emerges from the centre. When new the restriction must have been large, but add rust, lose wadding and I wonder why the engine struggled to get above 7000rpm when first started!

The frames may be works of art but the exhausts must have taken some building. The exhaust is now some 3.5kg lighter!!!!!! Very Happy Very Happy

Yuk! I'm glad the angle grinder solved the problem.
