Just a quick heads up guys....received my renenwals policy through from FJ....acceptable premium...but noted that they changed underwriters from RSA to Ageas???
So went into detail of the small print...and yup...a few changes
Cover to ride other peoples bikes on 3rd party...now changed to only if the bikes are over 20 years old...previously no restriction...so no more riding of Vorts, Geekays, Lammies or BimotaNiges bikes unless over 20 years old.
European cover was for trips up to 35 days each...but unlimited number of trips...now its a maximum of 35 days in total per year.
Excess on bikes over 10 years old was 50 GBP...is now 100 GBp for bikes over 15 years old (bimotas now not classifying as a classic until 15...previously was 10 years old)
Insurance not valid (without exception) if vehicle is not MOT'd...and we all have the odd bike we dont use without an MOT....but still like to think it would be insured against fire and theft whilst stored...not now the case....You wouldnt be covered either to ride to the MOT garage if the MOT had expired....
I stressed and pointed out the changes in their policy...some which they disagreed with...but I tend to believe what is in black and white as opposed to some teenager pretending to know what hes talking about (they were not very helpful...)
So I rang Peter James Insurance on 0121 506 6040...not only is a free call on mobiles rather than an 0843 number...there was also no annoying rubbish valvaldi music.....
Peter James offered me what FJ USED to offer for coverage....and the quotes came in as follows:-
Footman James, with the exclusions - 672 GBP
Peter James Insurance...without the exclusions 592 GBP
Caveat Emptor as they say....just watch that small print...especially if you think you're covered for riding your mates 16 year old Bimota around the block, even if only on 3rd Party...
Sad really...try to be loyal, in the hope that its repaid...but not this year.....price and conditions speak for themselves.....Oh...and that cover is a back to back for the following bikes
Bimota Db1, DB2, DB4, DB5R, DB6R, Vdue, Ducati 900ss and KTM 640 Adventure (yup..all bikes...not price per policy per bike......... ) |

Indeed so 2Bims. Changed to PJ last year, also no admin cost if you add extra bikes. I also got additional named driver for no extra cost - some criteria, age, experience, usual stuff. Good service with them as well and the price was right with no stupid excesses that you get with FJ. _________________ KB1x2, SB3 SB4 BB1 DB2 Vdue Evo YB11 RB1 Ducati MHR Suzi GS650 |

Maybe things will change as they get bigger...as they only have 7 staff...but in the meanwhile all good so far with PJ and bye bye FJ...good to know about that no charge for admin costs...got caught many times with that with FJ over the years (shouldnt be so fickle..... )
And it means I'm still insured to ride all your bikes BimotaNige...and not just the 20 year Old Bimota Buses....... |

Hi
Spooky just did the same thing.
However I went with Carol Nash instead
main difference I noticed was that with Footman James there was NO cover riding other peoples bikes unless the bike was over 20 years old where as Carol Nash they did include (3rd Party).
Both were with the Ageas insurance.
When asked why there was a difference I was told it is how they buy there insurance and as per modern times you pay for what you get.
Difference in price for me was £271 verses £282 for my 3 bikes.
So I paid the extra

Sorry Nige....I was on about both of your old buses...the SB and KB.....Geekays Flash Gordon Rocket to Infinity and Beyond is still a spring chicken and not anywhere near 20 years of age yet..........
Although fortuantely the Db2 qualifies for the 20 year old thingie now...which is crazy when you look at them and hard to believe... |

I know, its hard to believe the DBs are that old. Still trying to find out who was interested in the SB4. The guy is interested in doing a deal on the KB1, SB3 and SB4 as a job lot - all registered over in Italy! _________________ KB1x2, SB3 SB4 BB1 DB2 Vdue Evo YB11 RB1 Ducati MHR Suzi GS650 |

In my experience PJ do charge an admin fee for adding bikes as I've done this twice. However earlier this year when I was insuring my Ducati Paso 750 I did the usual online price comparisions, typical quote was £120 fully comp, then rang PJ. They quoted £15ish to add it to my existing classic bike policy. When I queried whether this included an admin fee they said this was the admin fee, there was no extra premium. As the bike only gets occasional use I was rather pleased. _________________ Bimota DB4ie
