Hi there, it's been some time since my last visit. I've been trying to make my new F3 800 handle & now that has been done I picked up a DB7. Here is my question....has any other owner had issue's with their dash ? As the guy that sold it to me had two spare that were for sale. The first DB7's did have issues with the tacho, dash. All owners were sent new ones to replace with. Not unusual |

The Koso units are quite "cheap and cheerful" the back light for the LCD dash can dissappear......fine during the day but makes the speedo etc invisible at night...and also the tacho needle can go a bit "off" in that it can come loose from the mount and wobble around....as its only lightly fixed to the body with what looks like dried toothpaste......If the one you have is fine then no worries....if he has a spare that also works and is cheap....and if it has the "bimota" word written on it...then I'd buy one as a spare in case you need it....they are standard clocks from Koso but with Bimota also written on the face...and they are evidently set up for the wheel sizes, engine speed etc etc....... |

Thanks guys for your input. Nothing wrong with the dash, it's just that I'm concerned about the history of the bike. Strange bloke & I been selling bikes for years. Ok 8500k's & two sets of rear pads,no service history except for a brand new book with his left hand writing on it. No vin # just DB7 on a first service,prior to that no pre-delivery. Spose she is in the right hands now front soft rear clickers all over the joint I maintain this....some ppl should NEVER let their toolbox get between them & a bike. I suppose in Oz you can be many thousands of miles away from your nearest Bimota dealer...same here in the UK...as theres none in this country....
Does your bike have a slipper clutch fitted? If so for some folk that are used to the engine braking properties of a Ducati engine then this dissappears completely with a slipper clutch...drive disengaging on down changes...takes a bit of getting used to so maybe previous owner never did and was thus heavy on the rear brake to get it to pull up............
Check it all over....they can cook themselves so make sure the rad reservoir is fully topped up...well come to think of it re maintenance....drain it, flush it out and refill....evidently oil change also and there should be a magnetic sump plug that catches engine swarf....usually an indication of engine use/wear....Belts on these are recommended every 2 years...they take a bit of stick on the twin cam 4 valvers.........Thats everybodies recommendation, not just "in case" ducati ideas....
Other than that, ride and enjoy...hope you get the rear shock sorted...they are like concrete on factory settings....and getting your head round the low and high speed settings is a faff........... |

Thanks Bims, I'm ex industry & have raced for many years. I thank you for the response. I am weary about the kilometres on the engine knowing the old owner had two dash consoles. No worries...its what we're all here for...You can get an ecu connector cable for that bike and software to load onto your computer...and from there you can read the engine running time in hours which cant be reset...so that would give you a better indication of the actual engine use even if you dont know the miles
Armin Schneider of Bimota-teille.de sells the programmes and connector cables with usb ends on them...the ECU connector plug is an old Ducati 4 pin thingies for a fuel sender...and under the right side fairing panel...usually with a blanking plug on the end to seal it..........I have programmes for the DB5 and Db6...which also use Walbro ECU's but unfotuantely the Db7 which also has Walbro...uses a different type and software...Evidently the programme allows other parameters to be set and altered...fuel etc.........Many folk have tried other cables and programmes...but I aint found anyone thats found a different one that actually will read the ECU.......... |
