Hi,
I've started to dismantle my SB4 which I bought last December but when I had the lower fork sliders in my hand I found them quite heavy to be honest.
I always assumed that they were from magnesium but found them a bit heavy ....
So I took the lower clamp of the quick release and put it in a measuring cup with water took the weight and the extra volume this clamp was and came to the unequivocal conclusion that it is aluminium instead of the magnesium which I believed it was made of.
To be honest, if so I'm happy because it is much easier to keep in good shape and painting is also straight forward.
Question: am I right, are the Forcelle Italia forks of these Bimota's made of aluminium?
How come that some magazines wrote they were made of magnesium?
Or are there different versions (KB2 TT ?) with either aluminium or magnesium lower fork sliders?
Hope someone knows the ins and outs of the magnesium Bimota parts ....
Other than that: never worked on a bike so easy and simple to dismantle !!!
Except for the electrics (spaghetti!!!) that is.
But the sheer sight of the frame and to see how little the tolerances are (even removing the frame from the engine is an eye opener), just incredible!
Most of the rubber (seals) are hardened after 30 years, hope I get everything I need.
Ciao,
Frank |

Hi Frank,
My painter had a nightmare trying to paint the mag wheels but no problem with fork sliders, so looks like aluminium.
How's about starting a thread on your resto and posting some pics.
We all love pics |

Yes we all love Pics Frank...it keeps more folk interested...and thus more people maybe wanting to help...it is difficult to start with...and then it becomes easy...or just ask and you can email them and others will put them on the Forum...that way you have a record also when it comes to putting it back together...I've found this in itself useful....one place with all the pictures on it.....Also that way we can believe you actually have a Bimota...... |

2Bims, Frank.61's man cave looks a little lacking in Bimotas, he clearly needs to be more dedicated and fill it up!!!! _________________ KB1x2, SB3 SB4 BB1 DB2 Vdue Evo YB11 RB1 Ducati MHR Suzi GS650 |
