I have been pondering the option of putting a rear view camera and monitor onto one of my BIMOTA project bikes and toss the mirrors.
Does anyone know of the best quality motorcycle able rear view camera/monitor system ???
Im looking for a system that i weather proof so that I dont need to cover or remove the components to wash the bike, or in rain.
The other thing that Im looking for is something that uses the tiniest monitor and decent looking monitor and camera so that it will compliment the looks of the bike and not loo like something just bolted on the bike.
Any suggestions regarding a kit??
Any comments or suggestions about using a system like this that does away with the mirrors is welcomed. Id like to try a set up but only if it works well enough that the bike will still be safe to ride ( without mirrors).

Might pay to check with your local law enforcement to make sure it's legal to do away with the mirrors before you buy something.

In the USA ( where I am), all we need is a method of viewing behind us. This can be by the use of mirror(s) ( only a left hand mirror is required, if you are using mirrors), or by a viewing system like the camera .
Even bikes without rear cameras are frequently ridden without mirrors ( even though it is not legal to do so. The penalty is a small fine if you are caught).
Even turn signals are not required ( that is assuming that hand signals will be used instead....).
Every state in the USA has its own laws governing motorcycle regs. Im in Colorado which is a very relaxed environment for bikes. Here we can easily get almost anything made street legal, including full race, and off road bikes .

When the Desmosedeci was first proposed one of the options offered I think was going to be a camera and monitor instead of mirrors. ....I heard nothing about it after production started so I don't knpw but I like the idea in ptinciple
Briyght sunshine could be an issue though. |

I have a AMG Hummer H1 wagon set up as a Alpine Rescue vehicle and have had a rear view camera/ monitor system on it for many years without any problems. Most of the high end systems have control and filter systems that prevent direct sunlight, and/or glare or similar intense light from damaging the camera, or from whiting out the monitor.
Im pretty sure that a good functional system can be put on a bike, and now that I have this in mind I plan to find out how to do it and give it a try.
I think that doing away with mirrors can greatly improve upon the looks of almost any motorcycle.
Ill see what I can find, and if need be Ill come up with my own system by combining components. There is alot of camera, video, monitor stuff out there for many different types of applications. So Im pretty sure that Ill have something that works and looks good too.

The big question is whether the camera is as good as a mirror in identifying the difference between a cop car or a taxi coming up behind you. 
Generally, the cameras have poor definition. They're OK for parking, but not the detail stuff. |

The reevu helmet looks the best option for me. You can jump on any bike, nothing mechanical to go wrong, good looking lid that is safe . I am going to order a gloss black one!
