Hi chaps
Does anyone have a manual/info for 40mm ceriani forks, used on my SB4. Im trying to find out the grade and volume of oil for them. If its a fill level it may be the same as in the more common 38mm ones??

the seals had gone when I got it and a lot of the oil had leaked unfortunately. The 38mm forks generally take a 10 grade but thought Id ask

7.5 or 10 wt. ATF should work well. Air gap (fork compressed without spring) 160mm from top of fork to fluid.

Bimotanique,
I've also got an SB4 and I'm certain the forks need a rebuild, not leaking but the adjustment dials don't appear to work properly. RHS, only the bottom dial moves and LHS only the top dial moves, the other 2 dials do not budge. Is this "normal" and do you have any info on these forks at all?

Cheers Sad

Hi Les
Im just taking my forks apart at the moment. i'll take a few piccis as I do so and keep you updated. No manual for the 40mm forks so it play it by ear. Seals are a standard size - I just cut the dirt scraper off the old seal and glued it onto the new seal to retain the original appearance.

update on forks. Here is the fork in its component parts.

Each of my forks only have one adjuster on the top of them - this adjusts the rebound damping as far as I can tell and has 6 settings. Have you a photo of your forks Les as they sound different to mine.

Bimotanige,
See attached photos, top knob can be adjusted LHS, bottom ring stationary. On the RHS the top knob does not rotate, only the bottom ring. Seems I have 8 adjustment points, 0 - 7.

Cheers

Hi Les
As below my forks are only rebound damping adjustable. They are really easy to take to pieces -about 15 minutes a side and you can get everything out while they are still in the yokes.
Just a thought I wonder if one fork is compression damping and the other fork extension damping as in quite a few other bikes? You would have to compare the components inside

Nige,
Thouight about that but I won't really know until I pull them apart or find someone who knows something about them. Starting to think the knobs and rings on top of fork are a Bimota fitting, not Ceriani or Forcella Italia???

Cheers

Ducati 750F1s with Ceriani forks also had the same adjuster- so 'almost' surely from Ceriani
