Does any one know for sure what the later speedo drive is from, the one for Antera wheels on the later SB6 etc. _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

No idea - change the wheels, that's the best way. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Yep, two different sender units. The early one is GSXR and the late one is...?
some sort of doochatee?. They're not interchangeable but I need a late sender so I can fit a late pair of wheels to an early bike _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Going on the assumption that it came from another bike - and the discs are the same size as a Yam YZF750 .... try a yzf750, if the spindle size is similar
That doesn't really help _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Can't help there as my DB4 has probably the same sender as your SB6 Antera wheels but I do not have a Duc to compare with , I guess that as the Antera wheels is very 916ish set up, disc etc, it may be a 916.
Get 2bims to check his DB4 against his 900ss project. |

I'm here. What exactly are you after? the speedo drive assembly or the clocks? Picture would help then I can check between the 2 Dukes and the 2Bims, and half a mile away is Ducati Manchester, so I'd print off a piccie and the parts man and mechanics share some 40-50 years of Ducati knowledge and would soon tell me if its Ducati and which model if so.
And they would scan the parts fiche of all dukes going back to the 80's and it then lists what Duc's shared that part, always glad to help, them and me
The old "A picture paints a thousand words" is always appropriate |

Yes we all love a good picture which I will attempt to take later
...But for now, I need to know what the speedo DRIVE is from. That's the later speedo drive which goes with the Antera wheels. My suspicion is that it's from some sort of Doochatee, possibly 916.
I know the early speedo drive which goes with the sb6 oscom wheels is from the gsxr 1100 and I have one of those but I need to source a later speedo drive and cable _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

Have you ever tried to take a picture of a speedo drive while it's still fitted to a bike
...this is the Mk1 SB6.......
...which is a GSXR fitment along with the cable and clocks
...This is NO speedo drive.......
...which is a SB6R fitment. Typical Italian engineering, just a bog standard spacer. No cover over the bearing
...And this is the one I'm trying to identify....
...from the later SB6 fitted with Antera wheels
It uses a screwon cable and has the later clocks.
I need the drive and a cable _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)

What sizes are the ferruled ends on the speedo drive assembly, the bits that screw on to the sppedo drive and the base of the speedo itself?
DB2 and Db4 and Doocati 900SS are 14,, OD on the top end and on the bottom end. But some later sppedo drive cables have a larger one on the base of the speedo, like on the Monsters. I needed a "special" for the DB2 as it had had its forks changed for larger and the exisiting 900SS cable was too stretched without sufficient slack for turning the bars when moving around and movement in the forks, and it kept pulling one of the ends of and disconnecting itself.
Basically I went to Ducati Mcr and just routed through their box for a longer speedo drive cable with the correct ends. They only had longer ones with a larger sized top ferruled nut, so I bought that one and managed to unscrew the end and sscrew it back on after changing for a spare 14mmOD ferruled threaded end. If you have a local Duc dealer or Chinese bike supplier, just pop down as they have boxes of speedo drive cables and just root through them. Give me a length and I can tell you what is on Duc900SS, Duc 750SSie, DB2 and DB4, the cable that spins the speedo is square sectioned on all at the ends.
I also popped to a Honda dealer, but nothing had the same ends on them at all
Forget Tacho cables, same correct end, but coz it leads from the front cylinder they are way too short for a speedo cable
Ducati 900SS's from 1994 onwards had larger 20mm dia spindles on them, up from 17mm on models that were earlier, to alleviate the fast wearing issues found on earlier models, all were fitted with Marchesinis, but evidently the bearing sizes were changed |

Righty Oh, here goes, all though you missed the picture of the screw end of the speedo drive cable side itself, Doh, Oh and yeh its difficult to take a photo, but try it when all 6 bikes are squeezed into a one car garage , just down my best lounge lizard impression ever to take these pictures without setting off a dominoe toppling effect. First pictures are Ducti 900ss speedo drive 1991, with 17mm dia spindle (measure the end that threads into the fork bottom) next up is DB2, then Ducati 750SSie 2001, all have the same brass threaded end that the tin plate ferrule screws onto, in the past I have had to dremel cut the ferrule off, make a split then prise off due to differing metal corrosion
Duc 900SS
Other end of Duc 900SS
And again
Now Bimota DB2 that evidently has Duc 900SS speedo drive and speedo, or same as 600Ss/750SS
And Again from the other side for DB2
Please rotate your computer around to correct rotation, its late, tough day following on from a tough weekend on the beer
And Now Ducati 750Ssie
Must make for the most interesting snapshots in History.......
Glad to help, and thanks Vort for the nomination in assisting, just coz you had to work today and had no one to play ping png email with whilst I was out on the jolly. Normal service will be resumed tomorrow, worst luck...
Oh and in case you're wondering its a case of Snap Snap and Snap again, all the same. If your connecting end is different, then post up a piccie and I can pop to Duc Mcr on the way home tomorrow and root around their stock of second hand bikes, and ask what models on the parts fiche are the same item, to get an entire list of models that carry the same part |

....straight off a night shift, decide to pull the front wheel out of the big bore to get some pic's at 06:30, on the drive.....drop the camera
never mind, where's the back up.......dead battery
Please excuse the quality of pictures but I'm between camera's at the moment.
Never mind, sun's shining, you guy's will sort my problem and I'll have a breakfast run up to the cafe.
Right, here goes...........
Pulled the speedo drive off the 20mm spindle.........
Defiantly a CEV then...............
with a stamped number....748219.........
...12mm thread for the speedo cable...........
...20mm wheel spindle.............
...ferrule on the end of the cable could be either 14 or 15mm......
...could this be a 916 speedo drive? did the 916 have a mechanical speedo? _________________ SB6 mk1 (project mega light, big bore)
