Hi all, first post here. My furano is on its way too me, cant wait to see it!
Just wondering on best pads for the high carbon? discs. Well they are rusty.
This bike is not going to be ridden hard so i want pads that arent going to be to hard on the discs. Was thinking Brembo organics?
Thanks, Steve. _________________ Bimota Furano

If the discs are original they are cast iron and as a result quickly tarnish with rust when unused.
Cast iron discs were "state of the art" tech in the 1990's and actually still offer great stopping power today. Note however that pads need to be specific to cast iron as incorrect pads will wear the discs quickly (and today these discs are effectively irreplaceable).
Another newbie catch-out is the discs are full floaters (not semi floaters) meaning there is significant lateral movement (5mm or so) and they tend to clatter when rolling the bike around.

Are they cast iron though? Somehow i doubt that. Too thin and with holes they would be quite fragile. Arent they just some type of steel?
The pads that came out i recon are original. Frendo 222 but i cannot work out the composition of them either. _________________ Bimota Furano

I run a file on them. Seems they are cast iron. Excellent.
Suppose any organic pad should be fine. _________________ Bimota Furano

I have the same issue with my YB9 and my early 851. Both having cast iron disks and need to be protected as replacements are difficult to find.
I have tried Ferodo Platinum organic pads but they perform very poorly compared to sinter pads. Via a specialist Ducati workshop I was able to source a set of PFC 7520.95 organic pads. They perform almost as good as the sinter pads but claim to be safe on cast iron disks. Win Win.
The only downside however is that they create a lot of dust. After 100Km you need to clean your wheel as it will be covered with a black coat of dust. I have yet to find a pad which creates more dust, it is that bad.
But they brake super! "You pays yer money and takes yer choice" |

Yes i have read the ferrodo platinum are Good for cast iron. The OEM pads in there are virtually new so ill just bang them back in there. They will probably out last me. _________________ Bimota Furano

@Coops: The platinum pads are not what I would recommend. they might spare the disks but do not much for braking.
PFC is an USA brand of brake pads with an excellent reputation. Their 95 compound is the cast iron friendly albeit dusty one.

They are classified as hi iron content...magnets stick to them....they dont stick to stainless steel....they are also much thicker...5.5mm from new with a wrar limit of 4.5mm stamped on the edges....ss discs are rarely thicker than 4mm from new...I'd always fit brembo pads...intended for the discs...they would be stamped as such...so i reckon you have replacements already in them...cast iro or hi ferrous content discs have up to 30% more friction than ss discs....they will clean up generally under use |
