I heard 2Bims call for more action on the forum so here goes (even though its a long shot)

Selling a Honda VTR 1000 RC51 SP1 (RVT in US) with 17k miles on the clock. Has lots of upgrades including Ohlins shock, Scotts steering damper, Sato Racing rear sets, steel braided brake lines, fresh DID chain, fresh Dunlop Q3+ tires. Here is the link for reference:

https://losangeles.craigslist.org/sfv/mcy/d/woodland-hills-2000-honda-rc51-rvt1000r/7247884323.html

Given the upcoming holidays and that I am always in need of garage space I priced it at $5800 which I believe is more than reasonable considering all the upgrades.

Wow very nice Tirefriar! Not many RC51’s come up for sale in Aus and most certainly NOT for anywhere near your price.... double at minimum.

I’d snap it up in the blink of an eye. Great bike

Thanks Brian. I feel like I priced it bit too low and it may be scaring some people off but at the end of the day thats what I am in the bike for.

No, what you see is what you get.

Havent been "guilty" of that for a while....calling for action....on here at least...and yup....youve priced it too cheap maybe for people to believe its genuine...see here...almost double your asking with more miles

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-51-REG-HONDA-VTR-SP1-STUNNING-FULL-MAIN-DEALER-S-H-UK-BIKE-25K/164459374108?hash=item264a8ae61c:g:340AAOSw0yJeaOql

and again...almost double your money and more miles

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2001-01-Honda-VTR1000-SP-1-SP1-HRC-HPI-CLEAR-IMPORT-RED-19K-NEW-MOT-EXTRAS/324412359249?hash=item4b887bc251:g:KqUAAOSwvddftVk1

Is it labelled different in USA? RVT1000R......VTR1000....SP1?

by the time you've paid, shipped it, you'll be at £7k landed, with vat and duty on top, so lets say its £8500 at your door.

Super hard to compare different countries pricing.

Honestly I have questioned if some of the sky high asking prices here in the states have resulted in sales. To me it seems like owners are looking to get "future" money for them as they know the market is undervalued right now.

One of the "big" differences at the moment is the highly volatile currency markets......I bought "cheap" from Europe when currency was in my favour....those days are long gone....currency back in their favour...but they have no money....yes indeed....its only Cheap when relative comparisons are made to other markets elsewhere....2-strokes have gone crazy in the Uk right now...and some folk are getting the prices asked....a 20 year old DT125R for £3500-4000....if its a genuine low mileage minter...yup....I've paid less for bimotas

True, prices are relative but more likely to the local markets. This is an SP1 which are not as desirable as an SP2 although if your skill level is a very good A-group rider you may not be able to outride the SP1.

The sky high prices are for minty hardly ridden examples aimed at the collectors and these bikes have certainly become collector bait.

Mine is a daily rider example with few scuffs and fairings cut, albeit professionally, for sliders. Some people are on the lookout for all original but the mods on mine make it a much more enjoyable bike on the road and competitive on the track. The mods can be removed and sold back on the market to offset the price even further. Anyway, not trying to upset here, just sharing my thoughts.

So far I have got calls from daydreamers, mostly people who have ZERO idea of what they are actually looking at. Had one individual try to grind me because his other option would be a Haybusa which he can get within his price range Rolling Eyes

I may pull the ad, wait after Christmas and relist with a price more in line with the market. Thanks all for the input and Happy Holidays!

I had an SP1 in the Uk. I had done similar mods, ohlins rear suspension, front was modified by Maxton, power commander etc etc. I sold it to make way for a 2007 fireblade, I have to admit this has been one regret, I honestly wish I had never let it go. I was looking at yours thinking it would be nice to have one back in the garage. I will have a word with a friend of mine who brings bikes in from America and ask the question if he could arrange to get yours for me. In the meantime I would just ask you to think twice about letting it go, as I wouldn’t want you regretting the decision later.

Hey Glened. My intention is to use the funds for recommissioning the F4 (tires, battery, oil & filter, fuel system drain and clean, hose upgrades, etc). I have owned the F4 for over a year and its time to get it back out on the road.

Hi,
I have checked with my friend that brings classic bikes in from the US. He has stopped doing it now as the exchange rate is working against us, that coupled with the "tit for tat" tariffs the Donald Trump and Boris Johnson have now imposed it would work out far to expensive when landed back here circa £9,000. So for the time being although I would love one back in the stable I will keep my eyes open for one that is a UK bike. All the best for 2021

Regards Glen

Hi Glen
There is one up here and for £7.5K and it is a good time to get a deal.
https://ecossemotorcycles.co.uk/used_singlebike.php?Location=Dundee&Make=HONDA&Model=VTR1000SP1&StockNo=54055&Id=54055

I've dealt with Ecosse lots but I think this is at their Dundee branch rather than Aberdeen. I would be tempted but I have the MV F3 800 how I want it now.
Cheers
John
