Hiya

Sorry the forum was down. A database table had crashed and needed repairing.

Now sorted

All the best

Katy

On the positive side a little Forum down-time allows us to pursue our other interests, guilt free! Seriously though thanks for your all 'backroom' effort which keeps us all actively (and endlessly!) talking .

Hi Katy,

Thanks for the update......we too are having issues.
We had an excel issue and lost some records......just over 16000.
Still......12 million pounds only goes so far.

Very glad you got your issues sorted for a lot less......could you forward your cv to Dominic@ungovernable.cabinetoffice.uk

Hiya

Beyond renewing my insurance (rather a lot of little 2 strokes on it) I have been lazy today. Next thing I need for the garage is an oven, so I can cure some stuff, and warm some crankcases to drop bearings in. And I need to run the Cagiva Freccia in again (2nd time this year.....).

Excel is never fun. Not really useful for anything too serious! Certainly nothing life critical.

Although years ago I had fun trying to load 450k records into an Access database to back it up.

All the best

Katy

Ah yes, I have a kitchen oven in the workshop for exactly that reason. At the time, I went to the local dump/recycling centre, who initially told me that I couldn't take one that someone else had left.

After a bit of fast talking (me pointing out that surely "reuse" was the better and more efficient form of "recycling"), they turned a blind eye, but I was surprised at the policy and the level of initial resistance.

'recycling executives' who patrol the tips vary a lot. Some are helpful but others just love the ability to quote policy and cite H&S and all the other reasions why, no they cant help you unload, can't accept your waste and wont let you actually recycle stuff once its been deposited by someone else. oddly enough they are powerless to stop you talking to someone about to skip something.... but once its been deposited its worth more than their job to let you have it. Our local tip introduced a one way, single lane system (with lots of bollards) to prevent the accident that actually hasn't happened to best of my knowledge in last 30 years. Must have reduced throughput by 1/3 to 1/2 at weekends..but who cares!! Rant over!!
