Are they diaphragm operated flat slides? Never seen one like it. I always expect flatslides to be full manual. |
No they’re just Mikuni CV’s (vacuum slides) _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Started cleaning up a few bits and pieces and still stripping some bolt on bits off the bike so I can clean the engine and frame better.
I needed to get the ‘suicide kick stand’ sorted before I have an accident and drop this thing. I looked at the option of just using the stand complete with bracket from the parts bike DB4. But they’re a bit different......
DB4 on the left and DB2 on the right. DB4 stand is a fair bit shorter so couldn’t just use the complete stand and bracket assembly. And the spring attaches on the front of the DB2 stand and rear of the DB4 stand so I couldn’t easily use the DB2 stand in the DB4 bracket.
So I decided just to do a minor modification to the DB2 bracket to make it non self retracting. How many parts could there possibly be in a side stand for Christ’s sake!
I had to move the top of the spring further to the left to get it to overcentre and lock in the down position. I had to grind a ridge off of the bracket and drill and tap a new 6mm thread for the spring retainer, simple enough. Gave it all a clean up and it came up pretty good.
Before...
And after...

What fooking mad man designed these SS heat shields! Mario must been cursing the first time he had a go at assembling this Chinese puzzle on the assembly line back in the 90’s. DB2 owners will understand what I mean

Carbs off, exhaust off, fuel pump off.... time for a trip out into the sunshine to clean up the engine and frame

Evidence of some fairly severe road rash on the LH foot peg, which doesn't really make a lot of sense to me. Other than the minor damage to the LH side fairing (which I am assuming is due to a fall from the self retracting stand at some point) there's no damage at all that would have occurred with a slide down the tarmac... no marks anywhere on mirror, bars end, frame or swing arm. Possible I suppose that the footpeg has been replaced at some point

All that Bimota engineering and then they made the side stand out of the heaviest steel they could find! Together with bracket its over 1kg. I’m sure it could have been made lighter. _________________ Not as many bikes as I would like and already too many to keep up with! |

I always fancied doing a light weight alloy/Carbon number. Might get around to it if this isolation lasts for another year or so |

I have no idea why the factory went to the trouble of casting the bimota logo onto the rear eccentric caps, but I’m glad that they did.... I kind of like it!

Rear axle hardware is just gorgeous... even down to the tiny cylindrical hardened pins that lock the axle to the eccentrics. Calliper bracket milled from billet, nice detail.

True that. So nice.
When I fitted the R1 wheels to my YB8, it would have been easier to make a new rear caliper bracket but I wanted to keep it as it just looks so nice. So I ended up machining the wheel rather than making a new bracket. Glad I did. |

I remember your thread on your YB8 Lech, you went to a lot of trouble but it was well worth the effort. It turned out very nice, I’m glad that I’ve seen it in person and doing so well on the track.... the pilot did alright too _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Hi Brian, nice pictures, great bike.
I would have a question. Did you find somewhere this airboxes :
https://c.gmx.net/@337179720590295221/JugQwA1USImka_SThPCmwQ
These are from my DB2. I want to know, where this boxes are mounted official.
On my 900SS I know it.
https://c.gmx.net/@337179720590295221/LFQ0TQnXSD2vjUGhOWuoiA
Its left side on the frame.
Or could someone else send me a sketch, where to mount.
AND: I've heart, that the length of the tubes is a bit important. What would be the overall length of each tube, including the filters ?
kind regards

Hi Roland,
My DB2 Junior doesn’t have those breather boxes. My DB4 has a similar thing that both breather hoses go into. The breather hoses from the vacuum side of the carbs go into it. I have no idea where they would mount sorry. It doesn’t look like my DB2 Junior has ever had anything like that. Not sure about the 900 version DB2 _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |
