I go for the latter Brian....assembled wrong in the factory....But Marios pasta was getting cold so he left it as it is...hidden by the fairing anyhow

Electrics are easy on that bike...as also on DB2....if you forget the mess around the headlight unit....everything that connects to the engine or coils...or HT packs....neutral indicator...oil pressure warning light etc etc...is a unique connector....that only goes where it should and cant be connected to anything else

I know this is the "forum"....and you have to upload images is a faff....But they are bigger...expandable and more detailed than on FB lately...as I've noticed they are shrinking down the details and file size....to a ridiculously low lever....if you put up an image of a page in FB...its no longer legible...

That’s what I’m kind of thinking too Steve, the bike looks like it’s been fairly well cared for. Always possible that the forks were removed for seal replacement at some time I guess

I took some more photos today, more for my own info and to help with putting things back together, ut I thought I’d share them here as well....

The ignition leads are Nology brand, I’ve heard of them before but have no idea about their quality or any benefit.

Coils look like original stock items.

Nice photos Brian. Bimota sure didn't go to any trouble with the dodgy self retracting sidestand spring bracket. Can you delete the bracket and hook the spring into the hole in front of the stand to make it non-self-retractable? I did that on my KTM 300EXC and much better.

Bloody self retracting side stands must have been invented by painters I recon.... I’d say these stands are the reason for a lot of LH side damage on bikes. The only blemishes on the paintwork of this bike is on the LH side ☹️😡

Yeah I did think about that. 2bims also suggested using the stand bracket off of my spare DB4 as it should fit. I’ll check out what the best option is

Time for a check over and see if the little 400 will start......

As expected, the foam air filter had completely disintegrated

And, it seems my spare Ramair filter foam is too old as it’s breaking down as well. Looks like the first startup will be without the airbox fitted

Initially had no dash warning lights at all, easy fix, found the culprit to be one of the 15A fuses. Just the neutral light not working now, will sort that out a bit later

I read in a magazine review article that Bimota fitted the same carbs as what’s on the 900cc DB2. These are different to the carbs on my DB4, are they the same as DB2? RHS throttle cable connection. Fuel hose connection also on RHS

First startup went better than expected. I removed the belt covers and all looks good in there, not sure how old the belts are so I’ll most likely change them. Had a fuel leak on the connection to the carbs which was just an o-ring. Oil looks nice and clean. Connected a remote fuel supply and a battery pack, fuel pump primed the carbs nicely and stopped as it should. Hit the starter button and it fired straight up after about 5 revolutions. The carbs still may need a clean and sync and not sure if the airbox and filter will make a difference.

This short video was taken after it had already been warmed up. Hope the video works......

Are they diaphragm operated flat slides? Never seen one like it. I always expect flatslides to be full manual.

I've never worked on Ducatis, but I'd be concerned about running the old cam belts. I usually don't change out stuff unless it's necessary, but the consequences of a broken belt aren't pretty.

Looks like a good score Brian. I like the originality. Funny that steering stop being fitted in the wrong spot. Too much vino.
