I gave the frame a good clean. The paint is in remarkable condition for a 27 year old Bimota with over 28000 klm on it!

I see the Frame paint finish and colour choice is same style as on my DB2.....it plays tricks with your camera.....in your pictures you have a black frame...silver and a grey one.....almost like you have 3 Different DB2's... |

I was going to have a go at polishing the pipes. But I started to clean them up with a scotch brite scourer and jiff and I quite like the way that they’ve come up. So I think I’m going to leave them as they are now.....

They do look very good....almost like they've been ceramic coated.....cant see any pits....even if you mirror polished them....even though they are made of SS...they still blue up on use and can still corrode |

The pipes DO have some pitting as you can see in these close-ups. But they've cleaned up good enough for my liking.

Ah...OK.....polishing would have to be very aggressive to get rid of those...but I do like the finish on the pipes though...uniform flat sating throughout...I'm quite staggered to be honest that you've achieved that with mere scotch
brite pads and Jif.....maybe I've been going wrong all these years |

Close up they look a bit shabby, but looking at them from a normal distance I think they look pretty good. I have 1 more header pipe to do when I get home from work. I had to use a wire brush on some really bad parts and around the inlet end of the headers is discolored from the heat. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Usually the front cylinder gets the worst corrosion picking uo crap from the front wheels....luckily that one is well hidden when the fairing is back on |

Strangely, the rear header down pipe seemed to be the worst of all of the pipes. Not so much corrosion, more so stained. I’m wondering if these pipes have a coating of some sort on them as they don’t look like bare stainless steel to me. They’re pitted but not corroded? _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I had to pop the belt covers back off after I’d put the engine back in the frame..... I found a C clip on the bench and thought that I must have forgotten to put it on one of the belt tensioners when I pressed the new bearings on. Nope... both C clips are in place. I have no idea what this clip is off now . Luckily the belt covers are easy enough to remove and install on the DB2, much easier than the DB4. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851

Shock cleaned up and back on. I really should have removed the spring and cleaned the shock body properly, the spring has a few spots where the powder coat has chipped off as well, maybe next time 😃. Header pipes and link pipe back on. I won’t tighten the header flange bolts until I get the rear subframe back on so I can mount the mufflers and position the headers correctly

Hangers, pegs and levers cleaned up and back on. I replaced the road rashed LH peg with a good 2nd hand peg and swapped the rubber on the RH peg for a better one from my stash of parts.

Yes, the rear header gets it for sure. The tight internal bend also makes it a difficult shape to polish out!. The pipes definitely a sort of ‘yellowish’ coating from new, almost like a ‘weak’ passivated zinc look (even if thats not what it is/was). Unfortunately the system on my DB2 I bought from Centre Point was too far gone . Im giving it a go with painting. If it doesn't work out then its only £30 of paint and a lot of elbow grease down the drain.. worth a punt. Will post up when I get the final coats on! _________________ Not as many bikes as I would like and already too many to keep up with! |
