|
|
Hi there.iv browsed through the yb11 topics and know dought this has been covered however i cant seen to find and info..
Basically i purchased a yb 11 (p reg) and i found that the valve flap on the original exhaust was siezed shut..i had to literally drill out the flap and mountings..
Could any tell me if i should replace it with a standard yzr exhaust or can i remove the servo system and just use a non valved system..
Pls help..i know i sound nieve and to most may seem a simple question.
But being a newbie to bimotas iv a lot to learn..

Hi Rob, welcome to the forum. Just a welcome from me as I’m no help with your question... I don’t own a YB or a Yamaha for that matter. I’m sure someone will be along to offer some advice. Your forum name worries me though...... too many bikes, that’s just crazy talk _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Hello also Mr TooManyBikes….as if such a thing exists...."P" Reg...so presumably you are UK based?.....Its often an issue...be it a Bimota or a Yam for the valve to be stuck....and with WD40/GT85 and heat....they can work loose again...but it sounds like youre past the point of return....Basically the valve was there to keep the bike quiet below 4 or 5thou revs when around town.....so without it it should be OK if not a little louder....Have you still got the original end can on it?
I'm not so sure if Yam headers fit.....Bimota always fitted their own exhaust systems tailor made to fit under the engines tightly to keep a high raised profile and then faired them, better ground clearance etc....Some folk have bought and fitted Akra headers or other companies....and often some good used YB11 headers come up for sale....all depends if youre interested in Originality or not?
Dont like to direct traffic away from here...but do you do FB?.....Most Bimota folk have emigrated away to Facebook Bimota specific pages like BimotaUK Facebook.....and most on here are on there also....also Australian Bimota owners FB...theres a fair few ardent nutter YB Bimota owners on there....I can ask the question on there if you dont do FB? |

Hi Rob
The exup exhaust is a variable EXUP valve in the exhaust that can change the configuration of the exhaust duct in a way that controls fluctuations in exhaust pressure at the moments of overlap between the intake and exhaust valves in order to improve intake efficiency, boost power output and improve fuel economy. Its like the powervalve on a 2 stroke. the bike is not as tractable without it ( relatively for a 150bhp bike!) - I tried!
Mine was seized up when I got it and I had to drill the plate off as well. I then tapped the holes out and refitted it once I'd cleaned it up. Works fine now. Could you do the same or replace it with a second hand valve if its damaged and make a plate for the outer 3 hole?

As far as I can remember from my YB11, the headers are standard Yam, just the mid and tail pipes that are different .
I would suggest you can run a standard YB11 system without the valve BUT you would have a few holes in the delivery curve due to that pipe config expecting to have the valve.
I am the person 2bim's refers to as replacing with an Akra system . They did a run of 'classic' systems some years ago, think I ended up with the thunderace race system that fits quite nicely. However if you going for a standard Yam 1000 replacement system you have to remember that the fairings /frame are different to the original Yam and the tail pipe has a higher sweep on the YB.
Thread on here about it somewhere . Akra is a very nice piece of kit. |

Nah...previous owner to the previous owner of your YB11 changed the headers as well as the end can...but kept the exup and servo motor....like he changed the gearbox adding a 6th...the pistons adding more CC...the barrels..the crank rods, the rads, the wheels, the brakes, the carbs....I think the frame is still the same...and the forks....But yeh....Its the bend of the underneath link pipes that will be different...Bimota mounted the engine at a different angle to Yamaha and as Vort says...different bodywork and upswept end can |

Hi and thanks for the further info..i get what your saying regarding running without a valve.its not gonna run as it was designed to.
So i picked up a set of downpipes today made by black would as they say it does away with the valve and il just stick on a non standard eXhaust end can...and as you rightly said the angle of the engine is different and the diametre of pipe that connents end can is different...so im taking it to be altered so a.it will fit and b.the exhaust is not touching underside of footrest..il let you all know what the results are..
Many thanks
Rob..
Ps the £5k i bought my yb11 with was meant to have been spent on my bdue incase you think im skimping on a cheap exhaust system.its the cheapest option 4 me at the mo. _________________ 6 x gsxr750 models f.wn.2 x slighshots.srad.k2 and k3 race bike.1098.fzr400.yb11.v-due 500 (as oem)zxr 750.exup.zx9 racer.1995 fireblade.. |

Hi there..yes my v due was purchased off a guy whom bought the very 1st batch out of the rimini factory..he rode it for 900km without any noticable problems..he then went abroad when bimota recall all the vdue with the option of swapping it for a db8.so the owner just stored it until about 8months ago..
I believe you guys had a discusion about it when it was on ebay.it was the one that was re autioned due to a drunken bidder pulling out...
It was genuine i managed to purchase it for 12k..as it came out of factory with f.i system.and 500mkles on clock..
Starts a sounds sweet....
Have i riden it???? No..... not yet....
