What are the differences? How do you tell a 6R from a normal 6 without having to believe the sellers pitch?

The 6r is a completely different looking bike. Different bodywork, mufflers show out the bottom of the tail, swing arm has a large 'bimota' molded into it, electronic dash, different headlight and a few other differences. Google the 2 models, you'll see the different look.

The SB6R advertised by centrepoint recently is a 6R.

Apologies Brian...but I have to point out the "moulded" Bimota in the swingarm......Its actually hand formed stamped raised lettering out of thin sheet alloy...that is then brazed/tack welded (whatever it is you do with ally) onto the face of the swinging arm....then finished back.....very nicely done....I presume this was the only option rather than trying to Stamp out the letters from the back face of the face of the swinging arm prior to making it into a box unit...which also might damage the Avional alloy sections....Oh the detail....I've seen a "split down" version of the swinging arms prior to being welded up...and they are flat finish on the inside faces...

Wow, I didn't know that. They went to a lot of bother to do that.

Should make you appreciate it more when you know.....on close inspection you can see the odd finished braze mark on the lettering....also explains why its a different "finish" to the rest of the swingarm....

And just in case you ment to ask for the difference between the SB6 Mk1 and Mk2: The easy way to tell them apart is the speedometer with two big clocks and one small one in the center. The bigger headlights that go all the way to the air intake. A hole on the half way point of the Frame and Fancy Wheels, mostly silver. Production year 1995.

Thing is, none of these Factors is a dead giveaway that it is an Mk2.

The brake discs are different. The mk2 has Yamaha / Ducati type discs with a 10mm offset the mk1 has deep offsets.
The mk2 and 6R should both have "pizza" brake carriers, triangular pizza slice and pepperoni cut outs (see the pictures)

I did see some comments on Facebook though that all is not what it seems..... Working out whether changes are value detracting is always a challenge e.g. if the clocks aren't right for the model. But hey at least I know how the swingarm lettering was done - wow! And in the end value is what you're prepared to pay I guess. But if the difference is an immaculate SB6 and a bastardised SB6R then????? Like a dog with two effin' bones I am!

6R is dog ugly compared to the SB6 in my opinion... but that's just me.

But underneath it all the 6R is a bit better bike, it's what Bimota got when they addressed some of the issues

Maybe Rolling Eyes. Looks are subjective I guess. As far as performance etc.... my SB6 goes more than well enough for me and handles fine even on a race track. It out performs my ability on the track and is crazy fast for public roads. To me, I don't think i'd get any benefit or any more pleasure from an R model than I do from the 6. So it comes down to looks for me and the SB6 is still one of the sexiest bikes ever built in my opinion. The SB6R on the other hand just looks plain in comparison.
