Rear Brake switch not turning the brake light

Doin the maintenance before the summer, new battery in, fluids change and brakes and clutch bled, out of a sudden the rear brake doesnt turn the rear brake light when press. The front brake lever works to turn it on. Checked the connections and fuses seem all ok. Could the switch in the master cylinder gone bad? Anyone know the part number and where to get it?

What bike? Have you tested the switch? If it’s a banjo type pressure switch they are available on eBay. You need to check the thread pitch to get the right one

Redman....like Brian...what bike...so am assuming its a DB4 redBro Jap import??…..Its 99% certain its the banjo pressure switch fixed to the master cylinder...I forget the picth and thread...just checked a spare old one in the garage...its 10mm you need...but take the cap off the connecters and check for corrosion first....and then ebay 10mm banjo bolt pressure switch...Ducati dealers also stock them as they fit the brembo master cylinders for their back break lights on Ducs also

Its easy enough to check whether its the banjo bolt pressure switch thats at fault...or the wiring.....which does lead a tortuous route and 90 degree bends and more....Carefully pull off the connecter cap on top of the unit with the black cased wiring...and connect up the two connecters on the wiring itself and turn on the ignition and see if brake light illuminates.....if it doesnt...you have a break in the wiring...if it does light up...dont forget the rear light will be on anyhow.....then its the pressure banjo switch thats at fault.....and needs replacing as its a throw away item....Any main Ducati or other bike dealer should stock them

Its one of these that you need for the DB6....they differ slightly from the larger units on the DB4 and earlier Bimotas....these are a slimmer unit and a little better in aesthetics as they are visible and not hidden on the DB6

Indeed....although its a fooking nightmare on a DB6...being a "wonderful" naked bike....the wires lead a tortuous life of 90 and 180 degree bends and twists and wraps and stuffed here there and everywhere so as not to be "visible".....leads to al sorts of issues.....

Yes my 851 is similar - and the top of the switch wires sit right where your boot is and also get caught by the rear fairing - I ended up putting those horrible blue insulated crimp fittings on because they were the only things tough enough not to break. I might make up a block terminal to provide a bit of protection while not looking like a total bodge.

Have you not got one of those carbon Heel guard protectors that were made up on the Forum from my Bimota original piece?....basically it bolts under the 2 bolts holding the rear brake master brembo plunger unit.....and protects the master and rear brake banjo solenoid and wiring from being scuffed by your boots.....Bimota made some as an add on piece if it was "chosen".....a neatish unit that envelopes the whole assembly

Bought the new part, installed and still doesnt work, why? Seems my rear master cylinder took a dive and crap on me. Found it leaking while try to bleed it. No pressure at all. Anyone knows which rebuild kit to buy the 2007 DB6?
