So , there I am having to strip the battery box out yet again to replace another rectifier .
]
Decided I would give it a bit of a weigh .
Go on , guess how heavy ?? |

Certainly more than the SHorai battery it holds...1.9Kgs....?? instead of using polystyrene or foam to infill around it...get some balloons and fill them with helium and push those in...will offset the battery box somewhat |

You’d think that they would have at least made it from aluminium in the first place or even better CF. I’ve never done anything with carbon fibre.
So how much weight was in the other boat anchor? _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Original = roughly 700 grams
Current alloy template/mold = 110 grams
That's got to be the cheapest 600gram weight saving going . Cost me £2k to loose 5kg with the carbon wheels and £42 for the alloy basic bent bracket. ???? |

Yep that’s great weight loss at a bargain price mate. More tasty than eating kale and lettuce to lose weight too _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Makes you wonder how much thought went into it really? Also thinking what else can be modified/updated that we haven’t thought of _________________ 2SMOKE |

There's plenty on the vdue to go at. Lots of the brackets are 2mm steel . Rear light/exhaust can mount , exhaust mount under seat is the standard vdue exhaust one with another bracket attached for the Jolly Motos !!!!.
But that is a common theme across all Bimota's TBH, they go to the great lengths on billet this , carbon that and then stick some QE2 bracket on to hold a solenoid /battery / ECU etc. |

It’s pretty easy to knock off a heap of weight from a stock production bike, any stock bike really. Once all of the obvious big heavy bits have been lightened or replaced, it starts to get really expensive per ounce. I have a friend who has a 90’s race bike that was already very light. He’s been slowly replacing anything that he can to make it even lighter. He has gone as far as replacing the long bolts that hold the crank case halves together with hand made titanium bolts, he’s even made titanium capscrews for the tops of the FCR carbs and uses titanium lock wire _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I am on my third.
First one was my fault , in a rush changing a flat battery , shorted battery contacts , blow rectifier . acid battery.
Second one , OEM rectifier, battery connection worked loose , blow rectifier and battery , lithium battery
Third - Mosfet rectifier upgrade/Lithium battery , all OK at the moment , also repositioned rectifier for extra cooling. |

I have heard good things about the regulator mosfet ..... 10AH are few to turn on the 500 v two ..... I want to put 14AH battery but you need a lithium battery to have the necessary space .... you have photos of your changes to the voltage regulator? |

Aluminium would be lighter - and adequate for non structural fasteners like that. |
