Hi folks....
Going to view an 'immaculate' SB6 this week...what are the main things to check / view etc, what are the main things / problems to watch out for?

Im thinking the one off bodyworks the main thing to ensure its perfect with pretty much everything else being the typical 'used bike' checks!

I've had a wide engineering/biking experience including racebike prep/restoration etc so its basically SB6 pointers Im needing!

thanks for any pointers!

check for small dints in swingarm because if bike goes down the footpegs dig into the swingarm. Check the frame and take off any carbon fibre frame covers as the frame gets scracthed because the fairing doesnt cover the frame. Also the fairing around the headlight can crack, mainly as of age and stress from fast riding. Sb6 has 2 really bad headlights with 2 batteries behind them and the bikes can be hard to start in damp weather due the electrics. Silicone spray can help this. I found a very bad vibation through the footpegs and bars at the cruising speed of 100mph, 6000 revs which led to pins and needles in both hands and feet. This however doesnt happen on my Sb6r. Apart from this the bikes are fantastic and the sb6 is much prettier than its grown up brother the sb6r, but the sb6r is a much better bike.
Hope this helps.
John

Apart from the usal, I would suggest:

- Early SB6 and indeed GSXR 1100 had a 2 bolt clutch slave cylinder - these caused problems.
- bodywork - as these are rare and hard to replace - check for damage and cracks - self supporting seat unit is first to go.

Best regards,

Lynton
