|
|
I need some help, deciding what to use of aftermarket parts, to build my Dream Machine racer, Bimota SB6R, 1996 model.
Forks are not up to speck, front brakes need to go, tail is to large "I am thinking H4 Moto2 Bimota seat/tail" or something like it, higher fairing in front, new svingarm, maybe lighter rims "anybody now how much the original weigh?"
New instrument, the old ones suck, any ideas folks. All ideas will be appreciated.
PS: sorry I forgot, idea is to get it down to 160 kg, motor is a gem, so don't want to tune it, need it reliable in stead, but to tweet and tune all else, chassie, fairing, bigger radiator, lighter exhaust and such, weight and grip and brakes is all. Normal claimed 156 hp is enough.

Dymag or BST carbon wheels - massive difference to weight and handling.
Bespoke exhaust Y-piece and carbon cans or full Moto Corse titanium system - very expensive.
Koso clocks.
Brembo RCS radial master cylinders - calipers are fine once you've got light weight wheels on, although if you're replacing the forks you've got the option to go to radial callipers.
Koso or other after-market clocks.
Ohlins forks off an Aprilia Mille - you can use the Aprilia yokes as well, but it would be better to have some made.
Lithium battery - easy weight loss and lowers centre of gravity.
You haven't got a sub-frame, so if you want to change the seat unit you'll have to modify an original one or have a new one made up in carbon that will take your weight - very expensive.
You're right, the motor is a peach, but it is heavy, which will limit your ability to get overall weight down. 160kg is probably too optimistic - if you get it down to 170kg you will have done well. Wheels and exhaust will make it feel like a middle weight, rather than the slug it is out of the crate.
It can all be done, but you would want to budget at least €10,000 or better still twice that, if you're going to have a crack at the seat unit - but the bike that Bimota would have wanted to make hatches out of the overweight blob that £16k would have bought you in 1996.
Good luck! _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |
