In order to register my YB6, which has recently arrived from Italy, I need to provide proof of year of manufacture.

The Italian documents show 1990 but I believe that this is when it was first registered, I think the bike is a 1988 bike.

Is there a dating service within the Bimota scene?

Thats the YB6 that was once owned by Fernando Felli.....production run of 546 bikes.....records say that that version of the Yb6 was made between the years of 1988 - 1990....its a low frame number but no real records exist of what year each separate bike was made...some low frame numbers can appear a few years afterwards....If you have the italian registration documents showing first registered....and sent these to DVLA...they would provide an age related number plate according to when first reg'd in the EU.....whether 1988 or 1990...its still over 15 years old so would classify for classic bike insurance anyhow...the later Tuatara was 89/90 and the exup YB6 89/90.......I believe North Leicester motorcycles provide a dating service at a cost...but would probably give you what you already have and are being told now...contact them and ask anyhow if you really want it to be a 1988...but I cant see any reason why you would choose that over 1990??

Unless you want 88 for a reason, a private plate maybe, then there isn't much benefit either way.

If you need help registering just give me a shout, or call....all thats needed is the NOVA notification saying no tax to pay...insure the bike on its chassis number...legally ride with no number plate to a previously booked MOT garage.....doesnt matter if speedo is miles or KMh....maybe has to turn a blind eye if headlight kicks the wrong way...but make sure other stuff is working...then send off MOT, italian export documents saying marked as export, previous reg number and date of first registration with insurance certificate, 6 months tax money and forms filled out, V55...and thats it...UK V5 should come through with you as the first owner and "previously registered overseas"

Dating certificates are only really called for with a vehicle thats never been registered before and is old...or the registration papers have been lost...the Italian V5 suffices as an ageing certificate....in the UK they dont care about date of manufacture for registering used vehicles...its date of registration is what gets the reg no......same with new vehicles...they may be sat in a huge field for 5 years before being sold as "new" and they get the new plate....not the age realted plate when it was first manufactured....Citreon were found out a few years ago registering new cars that had sat in fields for nearly 8 years....as the frame plates gave the game away

Geoff , I would'nt worry to much about frame numbers and years. Just because yours is a low number does not mean it is an early registered bike.
My SB6 is 517 and its an Aug 1994 , and I know that is true because that is when I bought it.( so a highish number for first year of production, and I know others here have a lower number that are later)
If you really want to know when it was built Amore can possibly get that from the factory. But they charge dearly for it.( another on here paid £200+ for that info, is it really worth it?)
