Hello folks,
Can anyone tell me why some of the Bimota's electrical wiring end tags are circular, like those which bolt to the battery, while some are squarish with a curved top edge? Do the latter show that the tag is bolted to earth? I have a mystery wire in the DB1s wiring loom which has a squarish end tag and doesn't seem to connect to anything (although my multimeter has given up the ghost and wasn't too reliable when I checked it!)
Cheers, MikeJ
PS. I bought the Radioshack meter in 1974 and it's outlived various 'replacements' which I've bought over the years. It was held together with electrical tape. It'll be a pity to see it go now that the newness has worn off.... |

I don't have the electrical diagram od DB1, but may the wire connect directly to frame? Is it a positive or negative wire? Where do it come from? the section? Is it coloured or black? _________________ http://bcomebimota.blogspot.it/ |

Do you have the electrical wiring diagram for the Db1 Mike?
Having just finished my Ducati 900ss...I know that there were only 2 wires that went to one of the terminals on the battery, and one from the other terminal on the battery to a frame earth...and then on top of that there were 2 other wires going to frame earth and one from the engine block going to a frame earth...I spent a bit of time cleaning off fresh powder coating to get good earths on to various lugs on the frame... |

Hello Steve and Spidermaan
yes, I do have the wiring loom and it says 3 wires, which I've identified, go the positive side of the battery and there are various earths onto the frame which seem to be accounted for, but this wire doesn't seem to connect to anything in particular. It sprouts out of the wiring loom and the parts sheet seems to show it with a positive terminal, but the lead from the regulator is already accounted for. Of course the loom may have been altered at some time in the bikes lifetime.
I've orderd a super new multimeter which should be arriving tomorrow and I'll get the missus to have a look at the colour of the wire itself to check. The wire is (I think) red but has a full length black sleeve. Ah, the joys of rewiring when you're colourblind! It's odd that Bimota should use different shaped tags for the wires and presumably the shapes are supposed to mean something but it's a bit of a mystery,

| I love your reasoning and method in the madness of different shaped earth tags....but method and reasoning fall way short in Bimotas history...whereas madness is the norm....I find if the "spare" tags cant reach the battery...then they are frame earth tags....even with Ducatis...they have one connector from battery straight to frame...and everything else runs through the frame other than one from t'other terminal...and one from the regulator/rectifier |

Hello Steve,
thanks for the info. I'll try to check the wire and if that doesn't work, leave it unconnected to find out what doesn't light up. If that doesn't work, I'll connect it to the battery live side and see if the bike melts into a blob
