Do you think retro Bimotas would sell? Not exact copies of the originals (SB2, HB1, etc) but very similar. Sorta like what Ducati did with the sportclassics. They would have to source air cooled motors and maybe current size 17 wheels, but what a showroom stopper. I think a small company like Bimota could pull it off, since they are used to small production numbers. _________________ 2002 Cannondale E440

not at all why a copy when you can find some original models used.
For example, for the price of a brand new Ducati 1000 sport paul smart on the 2000s could have buy a 73 74 Ducati 750 sport, guess what I would have chosen |

yes I think Bimota could do this if they wanted to. In some ways it might make more sense then the bikes could be raced in the classic series.
Finding a donor wouldn't be difficult, they could use the FJR _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I go with "yes" as well.....Modern day brakes, suspension, wheels and electrics with old air cooled engine...down to price really...they already source all the other bits from other suppliers leaving just the frame design and bodywork and tank being Bimota one offs...and a few ancillaries clip-ons, pegs, gear and brake levers...that they already do so would be simples really...plus with the price this would end up its the blokes in their 40's, 50's, 60's that would have the money to buy and dont want a 170bhp fire breathing monster (in the mainpart anyhow...)
Stripped classic, yeh....even the 5-10 year old retro take Ducatis are fetching as much now as when they were new....Seen a couple of "Superlights" which are just a base 900SS really, going for 5-6K in GBP....So theres a market for sure...but would be better, prettier, go, stop and handle better if done by Bimota

They did a frame for the FJ1200 so "just" check it with cad and update the bodywork. Put a pillion seat on it though. They could even sell it as a kit as well as full bike, just to recapture the classic Bimota feeling
I guess it sounds simple to us _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

well various companies seem to do well with XR69 type frame kits and bikes so no reason Bimota couldn't tap into their history too |

The thing that drew me to my DB5R was that very aspect of it, under the weird body work was a bike that Tamburini could have designed. With a bit more rounded fairing Bob would be your uncle. _________________ Spike C.
