I haven't been through all the forum contents yet so forgive me if this has already been covered, but how accurate are the clocks on Bimotas, more specifically SB6's...I've seen some outrageous numbers on my speedo (allegedly guv'nor) but how much is hype to go with the brand. Generally when I think I'm doing the speed limit there are people queuing up behind me...and we have oh so tight tolerances here for speeding, esp during public holidays when 4kph over limit equals fine and demerit points!!!

I'm not exactly sure. I've always thought that my sb6's speedo was reasonably acurate. You could easily check it by temporarily mounting a GPS (navigation unit) on your bike and go for a ride. I believe the GPS units are near enough to spot on. I have a TomTom Rider on my cruiserwhich is great for my trips. I've been going to put it on my other bikes to check their speedo's but like a lot of other things... i haven't got around to it yet Rolling Eyes

The 'law' is getting a lot tougher on speeding in Aus now too with zero tolerence. That's why i'm going to start doing track days. Wink

Strange you should ask, I checked my DB4ie speedo (UK model - mph) recently while at the Isle of Man Manx GP. I fitted a Sigma cycle speedo a while ago, and checked both this and the original speedo against GPS. The cycle speedo was accurate all the way to 80mph (at least) as you would expect, whereas the original read:
70 at an actual 63
60 at 55
50 at 46
40 at 37
30 at 28
So reads just under 10% optimistic.
Didn't try at any higher speeds as almost got impaled by a tractor coming out of a side entrance and decided I ought to concentrate on looking where I was going.
So my personal maximum speed of an indicated 130 mph on an RAF runway was actually a lot slower Sad

I had a Ducati M1100S, and the manual stated that the speedo was 8% fast. That agrees with this result. I just assume 10 when on the road, so I am a bit off, butt it is easier then calculating 8 on the run!

So perhaps the discrepancy was also done deliberately by Bimota. If I didn't have the cycle speedo fitted I'd see if I could find a speedo drive with a different ratio to correct the error.

My Paso had a km only speedo when new, I used to find doing km to miles calculations in my head of distance travelled/to go made a long motorway ride pass faster.

Speedos are a fixed gear ratio which is OK as long as the wheel and tyre are a constant diameter
Its better they read slightly over than under though.
