Inspired by Pompey's blatant vandalism, modding his side stand, I decided to have a go and try and stave off the Bimota falling over disease.
Step 1 is to remove the stand from the bike.

step 2
get the hacksaw out

Step 3
The hole down the centre, I drilled out and tapped M10. There is enough meat to drill and tap M12, I just used what i had lying about. Used a length of threaded bar, loctited into one end

Step 4
Whack it back on the bike and adjust to desired length

Step 5
Now I've got it to the right length, I can measure the length of spacer I need to turn up.

step 6
screw it together

step 7
whack it back on the bike

I need to decide how I'm going to finish it off from a cosmetic point of view. Stainless sleeve like Pompey. Blast and powder coat it. Or probably, Turn up a new spacer from alloy and mirror polish so it blends in with the chrome.
The beauty is, like Pompeys, it's adjustable by using different length spacers

This is still a prototype and, as yet, I'm still not happy with it Crying or Very sad
Yes, it does the job, no problem but I think I'm going to drill and tap it for 12mm STAINLESS threaded bar and turn an alloy spacer which I'll mirror polish.
Trouble is, I havent got an endless supply of Bimota side stands so need to be careful not to wreck the two I've got as I need them. Laughing
Watch this space Wink

Do you think that will be enough to buy the unmodified side stands from Bimota Laughing

Whilst trawling the interweb thingy, I found this picture of a wonderfully modified side stand. The owner must be a master craftsman who wanted this mod to blend in and look like it came out of the factory that way Laughing

After saying that, hope it's not your mod Pompey
Laughing Laughing Laughing

Guessing at the length of the bit that's been inserted, looks to be around the 40mm mark. Strangely, that's how long the spacer in my mod is. Can we inquire, in the interest of being nosey, how long is yours Dunc Laughing

I started with a 35 mm slacer then adjusted my ride hieght on the shock to fully extend. Not a drama, just unscrewed another 10 mil and pushed the sleeve down. Love being lucky. So I opted for 45 mil and was able to twist the foot plate around to sit flush on the deck.

Here we go
FINAL MkII version
Stainless M12 threaded rod arrived today so tapped out the two halves of the side stand and turned a spacer out of ally, 40mm long X 20mm diameter and threaded that too. Plenty of loctite and job done

You have the later sidestand. The earlier one doesn't have the ball bearing to lock it in the up position.

I was think more of taking the foot off and adding a new one

Yeah, I'm thinking a bigger foot might stop it sinking in the tarmac but that means a bolt on foot or destroying the chrome with a weld on foot

Exactly what I what I was thinking. An allen head bolt up the non-sniffing end should sort it out.

I can draw something if you want.

Now got a selection of side stands...........

The bottom one is the standard SB6R which is too short at 255mm from pivot hole to bottom of foot.

Middle one is 265mm from pivot hole to bottom of foot.

Top one is 300mm from pivot hole to bottom of foot.

Will be trying these over the next couple of days to find out which is closest to the ideal length. I'm thinking that the middle one is too short and the big one is too long but we will see. If all else fails, I've got plenty of "stock" to make adjustable ones.
The 300mm are being sold on egay.de at the moment as 315mm Wink

P.S This is for the 6R which already sits higher than the 6 Wink

P.P.S The long stand doesn't have a hole for the spring and ball bearing Wink
