Careful.... Thats how the bimota bug begins....you buy one...then still keep looking..
And you find another...then you wake up one day and as if by magic...there's 5 or 6 kicking about in your garage... |

Thats the idea...I'm glad you're getting into the spirit of Bimota OWnership...and even before having bought one...Run...Run Now...Run as fast as you can for the Hills....Go quickly whilst you can still escape...............
The disease has no Known cure....is totally disabilitating...and highly contagious to those around you....even receipt of emails or looking at pictures causes the virus to spread.........Tear up your phone line.....Burn your computer...throw away your android phone, tablet, pc you name it...then go and hid in a cave and seal up the entrance...its the only possible cure..... |

Ok Rog... here's my personal opinion...
I'd skip on all of these that you mention. I much prefer the look of the sb6 over the sb6r, just something about the 6r that isn't right for me. The look of the sb6 is pure sex for me... ohh those lines
The sb6 that you are close to sealling the deal on wouldn't be the right one for ME. The little things casn be tidied up but the painted frame and swing arm would make me walk away.
From what i've seen, you guys in Europe and even UK have a fairly big market for motorcycles and therefor a lot more choice. Even if you find one in a different EU country road transport is so much easier than shipping to say... Australia would be.
This is just my personal opinion mate as you asked for. I'm not trying to rain on your parade. If it were me, i'd have to wait for the right one to come along.
May the force be with you,

True what they say about the Bimota virus.
It’s very difficult to judge from a picture. You have to see it in real.
As far as my knowledge goes for the SB6. The frame is something you have to be careful with.
It is strong for where it is design for, but when you crash the bike it is the thing it is the most difficult to repair. Maybe a real good specialist can do the job but I have my doubts and it would not be cheap.
There are a few reasons to paint the frame.
-The original anodised layer is not the best quality it easily scratch.
-Personal taste.
-Cover up a repair/damage.
I am not saying don’t buy this bike. Only be careful. Ask the Bimota forum Germany if someone know this bike. The Bimota community is not that big, maybe they can tell you more about the bike.
Are all the original parts with the bike? If so are they damaged or not. Just to get an idea.
My opinion, go for the SB6 but that’s my personal taste.
Hope this helps.
P.s. where do you live in Germany? _________________ vince

I live in Heidelberg.
There are so many good deals on sb6-r's I'm really tempted, as it is so much trouble to pick this sb6 up and the painted frame and suspiciouse carbon do make me wonder. But i'm in for a SB6 and that one is probably ok.
So now that you scared me regarding frame and swingarme damage, if i cannot see anything, and a little something turned out to be hidden behind the carbon protectors, which must be there since at least 7 years, how bad would that be? Probably purely cosmeticall or to be taken serious no mater what. |

Well the SB6 is the one Bimota that they made the most of so it depends on your patience if waiting for another one...you'll need less patience than for many other models....The black frame and swingarm could be a bad sign...as someone has gone to a lot of efffort in stripping the entire bike to spray it black...and why hide an ally frame? Sure the anodising may have been bad...or some scratches here and there but most folk would leave as is for transparency or polish the frame......But then some people may have wanted a black frame to personalise the bike...Germany is surely the ONE country where Bimota owners are not afraid of personalising a Bimota to their own liking...more so than any other country.......How long has the present owner had the bike? If a short time..less than a year...it could point to trouble hes found...if a long time owner then maybe not...In the UK we have bike tests and mileage checks every year so you can see how many miles its done each year and between ownership. Do you have this in Germany? If present owner has done many miles then maybe nothing wrong with it.........All down to physical inspection and personal choice.........If you were going to strip it down and put it back to standard, and standard paint to bodywork also...then I'd look for one of those...as thats a bag of money to change something if you dont like it......... |

Originally you said you wanted a bike to modify, you would want to do that to a perfect condition bike.
It could be this one is just painted - it happens a to these bikes, and paining frames has become fashionable of the last 10 years. So as said before you need to look at it in the metal.
Check - the frame is smoothly finished. The swingarm behind the foot rest isnt dented. The front subframe between the batteries and the headstock isn't dented either.
Remember though, it has lighter wheels and radial master cylinders, so it's had some money spent on it. Paint can be changed and you might get a chance to buy bodywork in the original sheme
So, when you look at the bike, look at it properly don't listen to your heart ... don't go weak at the knees, don't think there's a long line of people waiting to buy it.
Bimotas will make you cry. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Sound Advice EC...best method is always an impartial observer to go with you when viewing.....so whilst potential owner stands starstruck ....other guy can properly check as far as can be done....Unfortunately when I bought my first Bim(s)...I took my brother and he was more excited than me....hence we both just marvelled..and checked next to nothing...but without problem...Just talking to the owner will give you the sense of whether the bikes genuine or not...and yup...expensive add ons are usually a good sign....A Pup with new bits...would still be a pup and rarely would anyone do this |

I took your advice to heart and had a chat with the pall, well it is certainly not a bad deal, but a few things came out. You guys greatly helped me, thanks so much.
I thought about this with some common sense this time. Long story short, i skipped this deal.
I'm sure now i want an sb6 and not the -R , but one that i can build up myself, regardless of cost. So i'll keep looking.
Maybe its just my broken heart right now or the bad weather but for this week i don't want to see anything about motorcycles.
But next week |

I secured a deal on an -R, last call was 3.850€ , its reserved for me till the weekend. I'll check this out, i wouldn't mined starting the Bimota collection with an SB6-R. Picking it up would be an extra 80€.
ebay link
It has a few faring cracs and a stonchip size paint chip on the tank from drooping something on it. The digital speedo zeroed itself a few years ago, the claimed millage is 11.000km
The rest is in good/normal condition. Ready to ride.
One thing i noticed is the seat appears to be leather with bimota write on it, was this a factory option?
Ive read there is a storage department under the seat, anyone have a pic of that?
And lastly, how much are carbon front fairings and where to get them?
Edit: Cleaned the post up a bit.
