Not heard that one before.
Check the carbs / airbox are properly on and not leaking air.
Check the carb seals haven't broken down, the main jets are clean etc.
Are you running the original fuel pump … they can be troublesome. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Anything been done to the bike, or has it started doing it out of the blue? _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

. It's been stood a few weeks before I bought it, I've cleaned the carbs out twice and fitted them back properly. I was trying not to remove them again as they were a pain to refit. Many thanks for any info you can help me with Cheers _________________ Horseheed |

Many thanks for the replys , could it be the fuel lines ? I've removed the fuel pump but am I right in thinking the fuel lines go straight into the carbs OR should the fuel pipes go in on an angle ? Cheers _________________ Horseheed |

A good clean is a must if it’s been sitting.
As others have said... remove the pump and just gravity feed.
Float heights can definitely make a difference. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

hello guys, i had the same problem on my sb6R.
still waiting to understand the reasons behind but for the moment i solved the problem installing a piece of cotton (piece of t-shirt) on top of air filter.
basically there is my filter in foam plus this small piece of cotton (10 cm x 5cm)

I’m no expert, but I’d say that indicates that it’s running lean for some reason. Maybe a partly blocked jet or float level too low? _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Take it to a dyno and get it tuned. I know it's inconvenient and might sound expensive but if you don't know or cant find what the problem is then your just "trying things" and hoping for a lucky shot. Take it to a dyno pay the money and it will be ready to ride. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

That’s ok if there’s a dyno within a few hrs of you, and someone who knows how to operate the thing properly. Otherwise trial and error may be the only practical thing to do.
Change ONE thing at a time and see what makes a difference _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I bought a brand new sb6r in 2002 it had a similar problem ! it turned out that the overflow pipe was blocked and when it rained it filled the petrol filler cap with water, when you opened the cap it disappeared into the petrol tank.
In the airbox there was a fuel filter half full of water it would run but when you asked for more power the water was sucked against the filter and wouldn't rev! |
