Hello everybody.

I have owned a Series 3 Bimota KB1 for the last 30 years. It has simply sat beside my SB2 in my house for that length of time.

I purchased it in Szarbruggen Germany in the mid 1990s from ex racer and dealer Bodo Schmidt. He said it was his personal bike.

It is a bike built by German Bimota Importer Krunermann and has an ultra-high performance 1200cc engine in it.

My question is in regard to the engine number. The engine number simply says Hansee 9P2A. It has the lip around the engine number, so it was fresh engine cases when built.

Does anybody know about these engine builders. Bodo informed me that he could have beaten Eddie Lawson on this bike, and I believe him, for it goes like no KZ1000 I've ever ridden.

Now I'm getting on in years, and I have to get these bikes running again. I know this bike is very special but know little about its history. It has the Hansel fairing with the rectangular headlight with oil cooler.

One thing I see that's also rather special is the exhaust system. It's marked KB1R. I wonder if it once was a racing machine.

Any insight into early 80s German special KB1s?

I have just found out that the engine number is not Hansee 9P2. It's the funny way they write it. It actually is Hansle 9P2, as in the fairing manufacturer. The name belongs to Hansle Motorradsport in Ettenheim Germany. They are still in business.

I just found an engine rebuild receipt for DM 12,413.60 which sounds like a lot of money in any currency.

Now I'm trying to translate the long words to sort out what was done to this bike. Thank heavens for Google Translate.

Also Bodo Schmidt is in Schmelz. It was the previous owner who was in Saarbruken.

Also the German Bimota importer was Krunemann.

I thought I had purchased the bike in the mid 90s. But the receipt says 1999.

I'm no longer sure the exhaust is from a KB1R. The receipt says 4 in 1 Auspuffanlage corsa for DM 870.00. But the markings do not say KB1R.

Apparently there is no such thing as a KB1R. All racing KB1s were just KB1s.

So what is my exhaust pipe?

The receipt from 1987 states 4 in 1- Auspuffanlage corsa (Racing Exhaust), at a cost of DM 870 (German Marks).

The exhaust looks identical to a standard KB1 exhaust system. But is marked KZB-100-200 under the black chrome.

Does anybody else have a Hansle Motorradsport built KB1? I'd like to know more about yours and other ones built by them.

If not, how is your KB1 exhaust marked.
