Hi guys,
Does anybody have a YB8 and a DB4? I'm just trying to confirm that the ally fuel doors are the same. Bimota lists them as having different part numbers but they 'look' the same

Or... if somebody with a YB8 could measure theirs and I can compare it to my DB4 _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

The whole fitting is about 125mm in diameter Brian and the door about 105mm. _________________ What, Jonny's gone! |

Are you on about the "false" fuel cap as fitted to DB2/DB4 and a few others......key operated and Voila...theres a plastic tank beneath with a plastic screw on/off cap?
THere is "one thing" you have to watch.....DB2 and DB4 differ in the orientation of the hinge and location of the lock and bimota "b" logo.....so.what you say.....Flip the one up on your DB4....the filler cap is milled out on the underside with a big circular recess.....to allow the plastic proper petrol cap to actually protrude into it when its closed....dont screw the cap on proper and it catches......Yes...you can flip the filler cap around 180 degrees....but its whats under the filler cap recess wise that could make the world of diffference....so...next question is....is the YB filler cap orientated the same way...and is it milled out underneath to accommodate the actual petrol cap?? |

YB8 looks identical to DB2.....so take the one off your DB2 and try on DB4.....codes are different though...you may have to fit it 180 degrees around to DB2 though.....as the "b" logo is at the top and hinge bottom with lock as opposed to the other way around (difference between DB2 and Db4) |

Hi Brian, I have a YB8 and a DB4ie and have attached phots below. I can't see any difference other than as 2bims says, the orientation is different. I measured the internal and external diameter and the depth and they are the same. The first photo of both bikes with the flaps open, the next 2 pictures are the YB8 and the final 2 the DB4. I hope that helps. If you need more pictures or other information/measurements, please send me a pm.

Thanks 2bims... I hadn’t even noticed that the orientation was different!
Reason being.... you and I haven’t been in touch much of late, so I guess your attention to detail is wearing off me.... time for some more lessons sensai _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

Thanks for that nichosk 👍, that does help. Great photos.

Yeh...apologies Brian...I've been lacking.....Uncle Duties....selling his house and his tat...me selling a house...him living here...me shopping, cooking, cleaning...him eating the food and smoking his pipe....better than Hotel service...they dont let you smoke anything let alone a pipe...but he does follow me around like a lost puppy....
Yup/...orientation differs....sometimes on DB2 or DB4 my ally cap doesnt want to lock....but its simply because the plastic actual cap needs another 1/4 turn to lower it to the level to allow the recess in the ally cap to slot over the top....its probably so precisely milled and engineered that it actually stops the plastic cap from coming undone......I would think though that "one size fits all".....it just means that the orientation may have to be 180 degrees out of sink.....but...buy the wrong one and the "bimota" "b" would be upside down when you sit on the bike....and I know most folk couldnt live with that.....even if you dont actualy have the fibreglass tank/seat unit...surely one day Centrepoint will sell you their one stock unit theyve had forever....and at a sensible price as theres probs only you that wants it |

Apparently they (Centrepoint) don’t need to sell it that bad. I’ll have to settle for a reproduction seat unit from Greece I think. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |
