Thanks for that Martin. Very curious, has anyone bought and imported a bike from germany and could give us a run down on costs, pitsfalls etc...? _________________ Pomps

Good question, would have thought within the European Union, one
would simply go with over with your euros, buy what ever and go home
Does import tax still apply within the EU ?
Downside, long way to go back if anything turns sour. _________________ Marty

I will do some more investigating I think... be a great excuse to jump on a plane and tour Germany before riding back when I get a break from touring ... but it is the same old problem of time and distance! _________________ Pomps

Hi
Ages since I imported something, and the rules have changed (but not much if it is an old ~20+ plus bike).
Think you need a certificate of conformity from the manufacturer. Not sure how easy it would be to get one from Bimota.
Failing that it would need to go through SVA. Which is a bit like a super MOT and will check all sorts of odd things. Such as sharp edges on the screen (which my Dieci would fail on with a standard screen).
Once that is done it should be easy enough to get it UK registered. Take the forms to the DVLA along with proof of insurance (on the chassis number, which most places will only give for a couple of weeks) and pay for tax / first registration fee.
All the best
