The Db1 that I have been working on has a 90 900 SS motor fitted to it and the oil sight glass has two lines on it.
The bottom one says Max where you would expect Min !
Can anyone on here shed some light on this ?
I am concerned and fear that the Valve Stem Seals are shot because this thing smokes like a NY Crack Addict !
1/2 a litre of oil for 500 Klms, is that acceptable for this engine?
Have checked compression, both cylinders 134!
Suggestions please. _________________ The Older I Get The Better I Was ! |

Have you done a wet compression test ??? If the comp rises after you add oil in the bores then it's the rings that a shot. Valve seals smoke on start up but then clear, either way though it sounds like a top end rebuild. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Picture of the sight glass on my DB4 900ss motor.
Sounds like the MAX should be the MIN on yours.
1/2ltr of oil in 500km is way to much, don't remember having to top up any Duc engine much between 4000mile services.
Something not quite right there as 134psi seems a little on the low side and smoking is also not something I have suffered with on Duc air cooled motors. |

Now to get an engine manual.

Best of luck Ken.....at least it should be sorted after all the other things you've done.........You'll probably find that engine out means everything off....what with rear swinger attached to engine and frame with shock etc etc.....thats why when I dropped my DB2 engine I thought what the heck...go the whole hog and strip and restore, new powder coat to frame, swinger etc etc.......on the home straight with mine now....engine in and running....just a couple of niggles to go and back on the road......... |

The plan was too get it going properly and enjoy it for a year or so then do a resto
Will do a couple of other things now .
Bloody disappointed at this but we just want it right as it's too good a bike to leave like this. _________________ The Older I Get The Better I Was ! |
