One of the few - I am a DB3 Mantra fan and now have the opportunity to purchase one. Won't tell how much she has been offered to me for and I know the Mantra has VERY few fans but just wondered if anyone would give me some advice on what to look out for when I go to test ride her toward the end of this month?

Many thanks for any advice (please do not reply with typical 'are you mad' type comments - 'yes I am' always loved quirky bikes like the Yamaha TDR250 which I very much regret selling was an absolute screamer!!

Welcome to the Forum...and Congrats on your intended purchase......theres a few Mantra fans around...and I've ridden one......A comfy Bike...and thats by any standards....not just Bimota Standards....

Handle well with essentially the same frame, swingarm and suspension set up as the more sporty looking DB4

Other than the usual checks for any bike....more specific ones are for the engine being a 2-valve Ducati.....Check for recent cam belt replacement and possibly Valve adjustment/shims...depending on mileage...as its quite a stripdown to get to the rear cylinder.....The Mantras run off 2 No. 6 volt batteries...so check these are OK also as its a double cost otherwise.......

Other than that...write to Geekay on here...he recently sold his this year...but toured with it around Europe for some 15,000 miles or so...proving its capability

Welcome to the group session sorry forum . One thing you have to understand is we are all MAD here, otherwise we would all be on reliable jap bikes or at worse Ducati's !!! who in their right mind would buy low volume Italian bike with virtually no factory back up and none existent spare parts !!!!!

Shocked

Basically look for Ducati issue's , the DB3/4 frame can crack around the headstock if had a front impact , and the plastic tanks are prone to growth from ethanol in petrol.
