Bimota visit 17th June.
We were due at the factory on the Tuesday after the BEW weekend in Misano….where the performance exhaust from Arrow was waiting to be fitted along with the rest of the race kit comprising exhaust …air filter and mapping service...on the DB9
Bimota were also keen to see some of the modifications made to the DB9 and also less keen to see some of the others!
The trip involved trailering the DB9 down to Rimini, then riding it back through the Cortina mountains (Italy), the Brennan Pass (Austrian) and up through Germany, Lux, Belgium, France then under the water and home…an Island in the River Thames …28 miles from London. Shaun (business partner/friend/international rescue) would dismantle the trailer and head on home .....his own.. but similar route…he wanted to visit Lichtenstein!
We arrived at the factory at about 8.30 and were ushered to the rear of the factory to unload the bike.

You need to host the pic on the web somewhere like photobucket copy the direct code and then use the img tags _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Although they are a working factory with no museum or factory shop...they had plenty for the Bimota owner to feel proud of and look at ......including their new range of 2 wheel zero horse power machine!
But the real beauty was in the outer works room......new carbon frames and swinging arms........totally totally beautiful. _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!

Being an engineer and working with some privileged companies, I still have not seen any thing as spectacular as these frames outside of the finest and highest end motorsport stuff.....where the workshops are cleaner than my dentists!

We given free coffee, T shirts and as much water as we could hold and asked to bring the DB9 into the "holding area" where other customer bikes were being finalized and documented prior to delivery.
Whilst upstairs (via the goods lift) the final touches were being added to bikes after their inspection test had sent them back upstairs.
The journey took this TESI from the assembly/finishing room, to the lift ..downstairs...to inspection...then back upstairs to the TESI engineer.
..only 1 guy works on the TESI...if he is ill...no TESIs are built..
he is the only one who checks all work carried out on every TESI.
And here it is waiting for him to double check everything Inspection noted!

The chief engineer…a man of a similar stamp to myself
…i.e not a stranger to the cheese and wine trolley…
introduces himself to Shaun and myself
...whilst looking at our/my modifications to his masterpiece.
Some nods of approval…
some pursing of lips and nodding up and down…
some sharp drawing in of breathe through teeth
and some “mama mai”…well…not quite but you get the drift.
Why you change the pegs to make longer?….
Why you move the pegs and controls…
Why you fit these bars…….
Why you do this…why you do that….
This I like very much……
I want to take a photo….
This I want to help you change…
Come here......... we talk!
I answered "I had always wanted a BIMOTA but the dimensions of the bikes dictated I just kept looking at them rather than buying one…
coupled to smashed ankles with pins in each…
I needed bigger pegs for my(now) strangely angled size 11s …
46 in his language and a more forward positioning of the pegs
otherwise I would be applying for a Blue Badge Permit
(disabled access allowed) in 2 or 3 weeks time"
He replies....."Okay….I give you the bars…
we (Bimota) only use 28mm everyone else 28.6mm"
I sat on the bike and mimicked a tortured soul
.....he says "I see you need wider bars"
….I did my best pigeon chest impression but still the standard bars
were not for me
…..I make you a set…you get!
But he was very unimpressed that the bar clamp
had more than the Bimota 2-3mm gap allowance!! _________________ On an Island in the River Thames!
