A little road trip on the DB5R to California from Portland Oregon.
My friend and I left Portland on Monday under cloudy skies with rain imminent, and it held off for the first forty miles or so. There were cells of rain that dotted the area, and we would ride through one into the dry just to make a turn and run into another one, over and over for the next hundred miles or so. Finally as we approached the coast at Florence the sun came out and we were able to start drying out! Highway 36 would have been very entertaining were it not for the water!
I made use of an Aerostich 2 piece Roadcrafter suit and a lap apron to deal with the rain.
Highway 36 brought us to Florence, Oregon on Hwy 101 where we lunched at a small "organic" cafe.
The rest of the day brought us to Gold Beach for the night, and dinner at a questionable pizza place that catered to the high school across the road.... _________________ Spike C.

We ordered based on warnings from the Yelp review web site, cautioning us away from the pizza, Roy ordered chicken and spuds, me a meatball sub. The sammie was ok, generic store bought meatballs, the chicken started with no spuds as there was only one fryer and it couldn't accommodate the whole order. His wing was fine, butt the other piece was raw inside! At least he got a free beer out of it, and eventually a really over cooked piece of chix to go.
The next morning saw us looking for brekkies in Brookings, Oregon. The main drag did not look promising and we ended up down by the docks at a hole in the wall type place with race car decor. The brekkie was most excellent, and we conversed with a couple who were there for the fellows 70th birthday. He was from England originally and told me his first bike was a Triumph 200 Cub, which was also my first bike! Wonderful food and comradery was had by all, at nice start to a great riding day. _________________ Spike C.
