|
|
The other day I rode over to a friends house to check out an exhaust system that he was building for a custom bike he was working on, and it was raining, so I wore proper gear and scooted over there. A younger man was there and looked at the DB5R and said to me,"you ride that in the rain?" Like it was blasphemous or something.
My reply was the it was just a motorcycle, an engine and 2 wheels. It's Oregon fer cryin'out loud! The bike won't melt!
So do any of you guys lock up your bikes when it dribbles? _________________ Spike C.

I don't purposely ride in the rain. But if it rains while I'm out raining it doesn't worry me at all. None of my bikes (bim or other) are show pieces so rain doesn't worry me. I prefer to ride then worry about a little rain or mud. _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

I dont purposefully ride in the rain........but living in good old "blighty" theres always a chance of being caught.......and seeing as I have done tours on several of my bikes...yup...they've all gotten wet at one time or another....and carried on running fine which is most assuring......Winter time means the KTm and DB4 get more use, wet or dry they come out to play....its just the cleaning afterwards that takes time....but is always a good chance to catch up on maintenance that may need doing....only a thorough clean leads you to looking at a bike closely as to what may need doing but you didnt realise until you looked.........
Going over to the Isle of Man for a pre-TT weekend in 3 weeks time...going on the DB2 with BimotaNige on his DB2...and the weather will be what it will be...and will ride come what may.........and in 5 weeks time its TT proper longer trip...plan is for the DB5R to go to that one...so again...will be riding come what may...and Hotel has no covered parking so it will be languishing on the road side in the evenings overnight......Ride and enjoy whilst you can.....lifes too short..... |

I'm with you guy's.
Don't go out in the rain by choice, but if it rains whilst I'm out , I get wet.
But saying that I wont ride the Santamonica if I'm staying out over night or it looks like it may rain. With no fuse's and just a mass of Italian purple wires I ain't getting that wet !!!!
And the days of riding in the snow have long gone, although I did find the power delivery of the big v-twins quite good in the ice/snow. It was the freezing fuel that made things entertaining !!!! |

Oh the days...carb deicing kits...with a switch over lever...still recall riding my rd400e back home in 6 inches of snow...front brake hose was spongy and useless..so just a back brake with aeroquip hose...so rode home using my feet/legs as stabilsers... |

Yeah i recon that a good reason NOT to brave the elements Stu. The Italian bloke doing the wiring on your SM that day was either a genious or colour blind _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |

So i'm guessing that the majority of the wiring harness on the Santa Monica is custom made by Bimota? Most of the Bims i've seen ussually have a harness from a donor bike? _________________ '99 DB4 #104, '96 SB6 #1165, '94 DB2 J #652, '99 DB4 #088, '08 VTX1800, '93 ZXR750R M1, '95 ZXR750, '95 ZXR750 Race Bike, '94 CBR400rr NC29 Race Bike, '94 CB250, '49 BSA C10 250, '61 BSA A10 650, '89 ZXR750, '91 Ducati 851 |
