Posted: Fri Jul 12, 2013 9:56 am Post subject: How to ZX9R preload adjusters for Paioli fork SB6. |
|
|
Parts needed,
ZX9R preload adjusters. ( ZX9R model C and E )
ZX9R spring with spacers and rings.( See note )
Pin 8,5mm long and 4,7mm thick.
Rubber ring 4mm long 10mm in diameter hole in the middle of 4.5 mm
Insert, outside M14 inside M10x1
Use the ZX9 spring with spacers and rings.
It is not possible to use the Paioli spring, the spring is to long.
For me the ZX9 spring work fine, it’s lighter in weight, stiffer and it feels much better than the Paioli.
I’m not complaining any more.
To connect the rod to the ZX9 end caps you have to use an insert.
The rod is M10 x 1 and the thread of the ZX9 is M12
(I did go from M12 to M10x1, it’s possible but it is a very precise work to make)
I recommend M14 to M10x1 insert.
Drill out the M12 and change it to M14.
For the re-bound I had made a small pin.
I left a space between the upper rod end and the re-bound adjuster of 9mm. (when screwed together and the re-bound adjuster screwed as far out as possible)
The small pin is 8,5mm long and 4,7mm thick.
Over the pin I slide a rubber ring for positioning the pin in the middle of the preload adjuster.
Rubber ring is 4mm long 10mm in diameter.
The pin should be installed in the space between the rod end and the re-bound adjuster.
Oily made a pin that’s like the Paioli pin only 8,5mm longer.
Note:
There is a difference in the spring between C and D model. The C is longer than the D
In mine opinion you can use both with the only difference is the air chamber.
For example, I installed a C model spring with spacers. According to a ZX9 manual the air chamber is 123mm. If you install the D model spring the air chamber is smaller.
Why I used the specs of the ZX9R, I need a base to start with.
The upper half of the fork is now more like the ZX9R, volumetric and spring.
The weight of the ZX9R C model is to compare with the SB6, especially after my battery modification. (See SB6 midlife update)
For now, with all road use, I’m more than happy with it better than before with the Paioli.
I only have to test it on the track.
Specs:
Oil SAE 10W
Air chamber 123 +/- 2mm

Nice one
I've got the tops and spacers at the moment, I'll sort out some springs too. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Cool - if you need the bit's machining I give you details of the guy who did mine, he has a tap / die of the threads needed _________________ Don't read everything you believe |
