Hi all, new to forum here.
Im an Aussie livivng in Thailand and ride a Ducati Multistrada1200S and a Yamaha FZ1 which has been opened up to take it to 150HP.
I ove the sb6 and sb6r and just the other day saw a sbgR for sale here in Bangkok. It looks like it has no fairing and might be a rebuild job.. Question I want to ask is
How hard is it to get parts for these bikes now... things like complete fairing sets .

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum.
I see you pass the first test by having multi bikes. This is essential as firstly Bimota's get lonely in a garage on there own and sooner or later you will have to get them another Bimota mate. Secondly and not wishing to dampen your new found love for the great marque , but you may need another for when the Bimota is sick.
To answer the part question , SB6 / SB6R are the most common of models and mechanical parts are on Bimota scale not that difficult to find, lots of carry over from donor and lots of carry over from Bimota's of the time on certain parts. Body work ????? well I would say the R may be easier to find as the fairing/seat are a bit more like conventional bikes and in panel sections , the sb6 is just one molding for the fairing and one molding for the seat and tank. However your not going to get any of these down your local breakers so will be a long slog.
There are a few members in Oz , and a few SB6's . Im sure they will be along shortly to help you out.
Just buy it and deal with the rest later. Rome was not built in a day you know , and the EXPERIENCE of the rebuild will either make or break . |

Hi Rob and welcome to the forum. Major parts like frames and bodywork are pretty hard to find and very expensive IF you can find them. I've seen sb6 bodywork on ebay but I've never seen sb6r bodywork. I'd nave a real good look at it before buying if I were you. If the swingarm or frame is damaged at all i'd steer clear.
Cheers,

Its been dropped on the left, the frame, tank and tail show damage, the brake master is different
If it runs it could be OK - you could put a different light and fly screen on then run it as a cafe racer then twarl eBay ( Germany would be a reasonable bet). It wont ever be "right" but it might be fun ... just depends on the cost. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I think the 6 fairing might fit the 6R if you just need a fairing for it. The lights would need changing though.
The 6R has a bigger airbox so has more horses _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

Yep they come up every so often there is an YB something that also came up yesterday. ugly as hell though Trouble with older bikes in Thaialnd is that usually some Thai mechanic ( I use that term lightly) has had a go at them.. hammer on oil filters etc etc
