According to specs there were only 158 units produced.
The bike makes 115 hp and has wet weight of excellent 233 kg which is darn good for 1985 and even more or less Ok today.
Below is the link to all specs
http://www.motorcyclespecs.co.za/model/bimota/bimota_sb5.htm
I am sure this bike should bring decent $$$ and especially for a collector. Good luck selling it |
Thanks for the info Falconlion, but the model in your link is an SB5, this is an SB4 1100... i asked my father again about the power and he said that when he bought it and the mechanic that has been maintaining it... everybody said 156 bhp...
Talking to that mechanic to see if he could give me a bit more info about that yoshimura kit, he said it included that come with Yoshimura pistons, polished insures, Vanes and Hines clutch basket, springs and plates and Yoshimura robust timing chain between other things that i don't know how to translate...

Price is difficult for you and perhaps best to auction it with a reserve. You have a couple of issues as to which market you pitch it to ... People into Bimota's are well aware that they do not command as high a price as they look. Resent years have seen a couple of types go high such as the DB1, KB1 which would be anywhere from 6 to 10 k depending on condition. You may get a better figure for the sb4 from a collector with more money then sense who has although the SB4 had little to no success on the track to boost a price up.
It may well increase a lot in future years, they are just not familiar enough to the mass market. With interest rates as they are and the euro on the edge of a cliff my advise is keep it in the family, learn to ride and enjoy it yourself and take care of it. It needs to be ridden to maintain the moving parts and kept away from damp.
So, KEEP it. If not put it up for auction with maybe 5k reserve or advertise for 7 to 8 k and expect to be haggled.
Good luck either way... KEEP IT!!!!!!!!!! |
Well, if 8 k is all is going to make, i don't think my father will want to sell it for that amount of money... i think he paid about double for it..
So he might be keeping it for a while...
Thanks for your help..

Theonly way to know what bhp it makes now is to put it on a dyno. _________________ Don't read everything you believe |

I just corrected the link. Now it will actually show SB4. HP is showing to be 112hp which is way less then 156. I honestly don't remember of any bike of that vintage that was making anywhere close to 156hp. 112 hp is still very good. Even if Yoshimura kit came with upgraded piston, etc I doubt it would have made any more then 125-130hp.
In any case good luck in selling. As any Bimota its an extrtemely nice bike _________________ 2016 Suzuki GSXR750 TRACK BIKE

I bought mine for $12k Australian and I think I got a bargain. Yours is an S so are even more rare (about 112 made from memory). They have a GSX 1100 engine 1070cc. I don't like your chances of ever getting 150+hp out of it, particularly with the standard exhaust.
Good luck with the sale. |

Hi Guys,
With regard to the value of an SB4, there was one sold on EbayUSA some months back for close to $20,000. The bike was in original but far from mint condition and needed a very thorough re-comissioning. From what I can gather, it is the actual bike that John Ulrich tested for Cycle magazine in 1984, the bike having been supplied by Cosmopolitan Motors, then Bimota importers for the USA. Furthermore, and its only my opinion, any of the tubular framed Bimota's from the 70's & 80's are now really starting to command serious price tags. The SB2 model in top condition will command in excess of $40,000. Take the SB3 for example, not the most sought after model but certainly a very usable machine, these machines were two a penny only five or six years ago, but now its hard to pick up a well neglected model for less that $10000. Also, the DB2 model, its only in recent years that riders are really appreciating the true value of this model, not just in financial terms, but as a real life, usable and simple motorcycle that works extremely well. The Ducati 900SS motor is so tunable and will easily & safely produce close to 90BHP in a mildly tuned state and stay both streetable and reliable......all day long. Again, only now are people starting to really appreciate this model.
In closing, the American journalist Nick Ienatsch sold his KB3 recently for only S12,500! Although this bike was highly customized and documented, it was a stunning example of the tubular framed exotica that was the HB2, HB3, KB3 & SB4 series of models from the mid 1980's. |
